I personally disagree with the idea that Denji’s arc is redundant. I feel as though part 1 was more so about Denji finding agency and who he is rather than him becoming happy. While his happiness was a part of that, it was more about him forming his own identity and realizing he isn’t a dog on a leash, he is a human being. Part 2 explores these ideas further as Denji now has a home and a family but still feels unhappy/inadequate. He wants for more. An interesting thing Fujimoto does is have Denji want to be caught as Chainsaw man in order for girls to like him. Denji doesn’t believe that anyone will like him for who he is. In chapter 155, he calls himself a monster and laughs at the idea of finding happiness and acceptance. Part one is about finding himself. Part 2 is about coming to terms with who he is and loving that person. There is some overlap but not as much as you made it out to be I feel. Of course, this is just my opinion and perhaps I didn’t understand your video properly. Anyways, I really like your content and hope you keep making more 😊😊

I think it would be the same with part 2, Fujimoto wouldn't just leave us questions that won't be answered at the end, as long as the question is important for the plot, it will be answered eventually.

The vast number of people who talk about CM part 2 seem to love it, so I'm not sure where the idea that there's any kind of consensus of dissatisfaction online comes from. Maybe this is just a Twitter take, therefor ya know. it's Twitter. At least on Reddit and KZbin i see very few complaints.I do agree that the pacing is slow, since the chapters have been shorter and he's not filling them up with dialogue to make up for it, but the general plot direction is still very interesting. I think the main issue with the plot currently is the villian situation. It's unclear who's truly in the main baddie seat. Seems like public safety, fami, and Barem all have points in their favor. But none of them have been fully confirmed. So that does make for an experience currently where we aren't sure who's a threat and who isn't

@alessandrofilippetti10 ай бұрын
I personally love part 2 so far. There are many reasons why i enjoy it’s pacing as much as part 1 and same goes for the art wich i will explain later. The fact that Denji and Asa alternate as protagonist makes the reading much more enjoyable as you get more points of view inside the same world and it helps the story into building a sort of dimension for the characters. Part 2 gives a lot more chances to characters from part one to be explored (like the human weapons), the powers of some characters have been shown to grow (like denji’s regeneration being stronger than in part one) or to have new limits (nayuta’s powers being weaker than makima’s) . The pacing of part 2 makes the readers build anticipation for the return of characters from part one (like reze, power, kishibe etc). The morality of public safety gets more and more dubious as the story progresses and their goals are getting more questionable. The character of fami is a mirror of makima, she has unclear motives and she can appear as an enemy or as an ally. She tries to save human in the most counter active ways and she acts as opposite to makima in the way she approaches humans. Like how the control devil was raised and CONTROLLED in part one, and how the war devil lives in CONFLICT being in Asa’s body, the famine devil is constantly STARVING but doesn’t show hunger for connection with humans nor devils. The horsmen of the apocalypse seem to be somewhat victims of their own power wich makes the anticipation for the revel of the death devil all the more interesting. As asa builds more confidence when she is off screen, Denji is struggling with his new life being torn apart and shows how he actually changed from part 1. In part 1 he chases things for himself and from others where in part two he is actually asking things from himself. His material needs only act as a coping mechanism to the depression he is been building since part 1. I am loving this so far. As for the art, he is taking more inspiration from go nagai in many instances wich is very cool, and it makes sense since the biggest inspiration for chainsawman is devilman. Also one thing i would like to point out is that we are all used to reading part 2 online but the thicker lines actually look better when you observe them on the printed version. Also the anatomy in the artstyle has gotten a little bit more realistic and more proportionate while becoming less complex wich is a harder thing that you might think. Overall i am confident in fujimoto’s abilities and intuitions as a writer and artist. As some may say “let him cook” .

chainsaw man has become my favorite new anime/manga, while i do think part 1 was better and part 2 is a little all over the place right now, im still interested to see where it goes. and like you said in the video i think alot of the problems that people have can be contributed to the release cycle of the chapters and the way the story is being told, when you read 1 chapter every week or so its easy to think its scattered, or redundant. but if you give it time for a few chapters release then youre able to grasp the story better. the most recent chapters have gotten interesting (current newest chapter is 160 at the time of commenting) so i have hope that the story is going to feel alot more satisfying once everything is out and we can go through the story without having to wait a week or more for the next 20 pages.

The cast in part 2 isn't anywhere near as interesting as part 1. Asa is great, but aside from that, everyone is just okay. Even Yoshida, who was one of my favorite characters in Part 1, has honestly been disappointing. I've binged part 2 twice and I feel comfortable in saying the pacing is bad. So little has happened in 60+ chapters. The Justice Devil arc was really good, the dating Denji arc felt far too similar to the Eternity Devil arc but was still decent, and the falling devil & CSM church arcs were just straight up lackluster, except for the section where Denji's house was set fire. I'm sorry but nothing in part 2 is on the level of the Katana Man, Bomb Girl, and especially international Assassins arcs. Part 1 was a 9, while part is a 7 for now and in a downwards trend imo. Part 2 is still good but it's just not on Part 1's level.

Cool, I've binged part 2 more than twice (not trying to compete here) and I think the pacing is completely fine. It's not perfect but it's much better than reading in weekly. Your take on little things happening is objectively wrong. The falling devil arc is really good, I'm genuinely curious what problems you have with it. Please do tell. The church arc is better than the Katana man arc, fight me. Also Yoshida is MUCH better in part 2 than part 1. Do you perhaps think that Yoshida just hurts Denji and likes doing it? There are multiple characters in part 2 that are interesting and good, not just Asa. Nayuta is extremely well written, Barem is the second best antagonist in the entire series, Yoru is funny, badass and has also developed nicely, Denji continues to be an amazing character in part 2 and I love his writing in the church arc, Yuko was a surprisingly good character for being in the series for such a short time and how much depth Yoshida has gotten solely on subtle writing is genuinely impressive. Miri also has massive potential and I really like him and, his writing, so far. Overall part 2 is a more main character focused story, where side characters aren't as important and don't get as much focus as they did in part 1. Lastly, the cast of part 2 almost all feel very human. It's really impressive how realistic they feel. (Part 1 is better than part 2 in basically every aspect though)

I think it's better not to put Hajime Isayama's face to replace Fujimoto's ( as you can see at 06:18 and 07:32 ), because I don't want people who don't know Fujimoto to think that it was his face and it will become a confussing thing later (a similar case with Oda Sensei face). Fujimoto barely show his face on public so you can use his iconic heart logo to visualize him instead.
@lescryingman409310 ай бұрын
The only valid criticisms of csm right now is the dodgy art and pacing of releases / chapters Denji's arc is way different from part 1, at the end of the public safety arc, Denji resolves to devalue himself to beat Makima. "I bet that she never even looked at me", this is the start of his current woes; his lack of self-respect and his addiction to csm. Part 1 was about learning how to love and achieving the dream of a normal life but csm has always been about having a better life instead. In part 2, he's told in order to maintain his normal life with Nayuta, he has to give up being chainsaw man. The better life is being csm though where you have the adoration of fans and girls. Denji finds the normal life to be boring as we the fans do and thrives on the chaos and pain of being chainsaw man. People say Denji regressed but character development isn't always black and white, Denji doesn't talk about sex as often as he used to, yes it's still a goal but he has priorities like Nayuta now, he even outright rejects Fumiko at first. Now I could also talk about the meta nature of csm rn with fans who just love denji saying they want him to be happy (Fumiko/PS) and fans who just love the action of csm (Barem), I could also talk about the Jesus parallels and the parallels with the hybrids or I could talk about how Denji's depression and current state is a direct result of him defeating Makima. I'd just like to say, though, that in terms of characters, Asa, Fami, Nayuta and Barem have been fantastic additions to the cast, with almost equal complex character work like Denji, Aki, Himeno, Power and Makima of the 1st part

If there's one thing I know about fujimoto after reading all his Manga and one shots. Is that the guy is talented and unhinged. There's a shift in tone between part 1 and part 2 but it's. A breath of fresh air. The art looking more flat kinda complements the shift in tone in my opinion as part 2 isn't as much about gory colorful action but more so the brains behind all those things. It probably is part of a bigger buildup and it will look more coherent by the end like fire punch but all I'll say is that I'll let fujimoto cook, if there's one guy who can do this it's him

Hot take I guess but ever since the first few chapters of part 2 I've always cared more about Asa and her relationship with Denji than any other plot point that's been introduced so far, and I'm not afraid to say it, I love her way more as a protagonist (for this part) and get really bored when it instead focuses on whatever Denji and Nayuta are doing together. That said now that she's finally advancing the narrative again I've regained hope for part 2, but I'm honestly not sure how long it'll last for.

My personal theory is that he was following sketches that he made months before the reléase of part 2 but along the way he made some changes in the story and is now rushing new ideas that he didnt have before. The thing with Chainsaw Man isn’t that it’s fallen off or that it’s bad, but it’s different. It lost its charm and unique identity that part 1 so amazingly established. 1. Chainsaw Man was given to us as a quick paced action story about real people battling the darkest forces of humanity while also trying to grapple with their own psychological issues. Crazy with high octane action, but juxtaposed with moments of slice of life- but brief. That briefness was intentional as to remind us that these hunters are people and that they fight for the small moments of peace that they have in this world. This unique pacing made the series fun, and still complex at the same time. 2. There was also the gripping and easily understandable plot narrative. Devil Hunters battling fears and sins incarnate , building up to their greatest enemy who would be the extremely powerful Gun Devil. This plot premise worked. It was simple, and creative. It worked effectively to pull audiences in and get them invested. 3. Lastly, the characters. All of them compelling in their own rights. Denji, Aki, Power, and Makima! They were fun to watch and each had very interesting dynamics and characterization. The ridiculous Denji, Power the bombshell, the outwardly cold hearted but loving big brother Aki, and the equally manipulative as attractive Makima. They were great to watch, and truly made the series worthwhile. Now let’s take these 3 attributes and look at Part 2. 1. The pacing is dramatically slower. Replacing the kickback action with more intimate scenes of character building and slice of life. We can literally go months without something big or impactful happening in the series. 2. The Plot Narrative/ Premise is very very muddied as you can’t easily explain what’s going on anymore. It’s no longer about a group of hunters increasingly losing their humanity in a series of hunts as they reach closer to battling the realistically powerful Gun Devil. Instead we have this mix of conflicts that don’t really gel all that well. Devil Hunter association and Chainsaw Man cult fighting over the future and power of ChainsawMan, Asa Mitaka working with the devils of war and famine to save Chainsaw Man by… defeating him? As well as some other stuff that I can’t even explain. That’s how convoluted or complex this all feels. 3. Aki, Power, and Makima are dead. And ever since they’ve left a void in the series that has just never been filled. Even with “new” characters like Asa and Nayuta and Yoshida in the mix… it just doesn’t feel the same. Maybe they’d work great as additions to the series, but that doesn’t replace the voids still present. So overall, Chainsaw Man just isn’t what it used to be. And it’s subjective whether that’s a good or bad thing. I’m personally still reading it and having a decent time, but I’d be lying if I said I feel the same joy and excitement reading this as I did years back in Part 1. Still, I love the series and I hope it doesn’t ever plummet into obscurity or join the ranks of fallen great animes like MHA. There’s still alot of value here, but it’s just different. Hopefully when all of Part 2 is wrapped up, I’ll have a different feeling regarding this series.

finally someone put into words why part 2 was bothering me so much. this is an amazing explanation, thank you.
@samflood563110 ай бұрын
Sure, part 2 could be a bit slow at times. But Chainsaw Man is taking its time establishing both the characters and events that could lead to a fight scene. And besides, Denji has grown from being a stupid hormonal teen to a responsible older brother and thoughtful boyfriend. And besides, Asa is a great main character and love interest as she’s just an awkward teenager who’s shy, clumsy and might be autistic, which is sort of realistic.
@mrsninis_04777 ай бұрын
oh she's autistic
@ryanchain974610 ай бұрын
Dude most the fans just dont understand decent writing. They are used to flashy shonen brain rot. Which is OKAY but only because those stories call for it. Chainsaw Man is NOT that story despite it’s misleading premise. Fujimoto’s favorite stories are the kind where the main villain is defeated within the very beginning, and now you are left wondering “what now”; in short, fujimoto loves an unpredictable story. Goodbye Eri explores this idea further, showing that the Majority of people HATE this type of unpredictableness. And at the end, despite it all, The main character inevitably sticks to his ideals and ends his story with an unpredictable outcome. Well semi predictable? Idk its meta as hell. Point is, Chainsaw Man does what it wants while keeping the story, and the characters mind numbingly interesting. Wait for the story to be officially over, and everyone will fiend for it like it was written by the great Hajime Isayama. Much love to the GOAT, and to Fujimoto

I think in the end of part 1 denji dont find happyness i mean aki and power die, makima was not loving him Denji she loves Chainsawman but at the same time she does this in a way like she dont now what she really does. And in part 2 we see that denji reach his goals but also in a unhealthy way. And not what it really means and at the same time we see Nayuta/makima who needs love, in this situation Denji. But at the same time Denji looks like he dont now what he want besides beeing Chainsawman and living with Nayuta as Family. Because he also wants love from the begining of chainsaw man but he dont now that in that way. And also Denji needs to search for power and look to his problem with killing his dad. So there is so much Potental. Also the last group of fighting makima isnt there in Part 2

Either Asa or Denji is going to die... We have 2 official artworks one with Denji cutting through Asa's head and one with Asa having a Chainsaw suggesting she turned Denji into a weapon...
@terrigo398710 ай бұрын
I feel like it’ll probably be Denji. His character arc in Part 2 definitely seems to be going in a tragic direction based on the last couple of chapters. I feel like the Church arc can sort of be read as a hopeless adrenaline addicting trying to change for his loved ones, only to relapse because of his lack of a support system.
@AyoSquareRoot10 ай бұрын
@@terrigo3987 You hit the nail, a lot of people like to say there's no point in following Denji anymore because his development ended in part 1 and now it is just more of the same. It's not the same, in part 2 we were shown that he didnt have a happy ending, he didnt get to achieve what he wanted and his story is not one about his success or journey to become happy but of his failure to find a normal/happy life, it's more realistic for someone to relapse into old habits and find themselves back in the mud than to successfully get out of there intact. His side of the story is just as sad as Asa's side with her inner monologues with Yoru, part 2 is extremely depressing.

It doesn't need defending. The paneling, the dialogue and pacing are clearly intentional, and every time someone has doubted Fujimoto he's pretty much proved them wrong. CSM is literally a big commentary on Battle manga/anime of the past couple decades, much like what Evangelion did with Mecha anime of the 80's and 90's. It's going to piss people off who don't really understand that, just like Eva did back in the day. People wanted Eva to do certain things, and maintain certain tropes common in the industry of that time, but what they got was a traumatic character study steeped in German philosophy lol. Anno felt deep deep despair when so many people reacted poorly to how Evangelion ended, to the point of lashing out in End of Evangelion, and only finally reaffirming that everyone should just accept shit, grow up and move on with the rebuild series. I'm not saying CSM is a masterpiece or anything, only that it requires a little more media literacy to kind of understand the meta commentary that's happening. The difference between Fujimoto and Anno is that Fujimoto doesn't give a fuck if people understand what he's doing and he's fine with people enjoying the series in whatever way they want to. I don't think he lets if impact him personally in the same way that Anno did.
@mrsninis_04777 ай бұрын
@Jurglenuts it literally does though. So many people mischaracterize Yoshida and Asa to no end, it's actually crazy. Even more so than Denji somehow. A ton of people who read part 2 also don't seem to care about the themes and motifs at all, they only care about more shonen aspects of the series. The writing is a bit shaky in part 2 at times but overall it's still quite good. There are so many examples of genuinely great writing in part 2 in the church arc and afterwards. The only part of part 2 I feel is rushed is the prison break arc, and it wasn't even really that rushed. ? Do you think Fujimoto not really caring how people interpret his stories is toxic? I genuinely have no idea what you mean.
@GoatLuffy_9710 ай бұрын
For me personally, CSM part 2 hasn't fallen off. A recent example of a manga that's fallen off is Tokyo Revengers after the Tenjiku Arc. CSM part 2 is nowhere near as uninteresting, tedious, poorly written, awfully paced, or unnecessary as the final arc(s) of Tokyo Revengers. That being said, I dropped CSM part two because I just wasn't feeling it. Also, the artwork has declined. Not sure why that's the case. I just hope Fujimoto is doing well health wise.
