yep. they (and many other companies and people) think that for a female character to be strong, she needs to fight well and be confident (which often turns into her being a flat, evil character with little redeeming qualities) = basically be more traditionally masculine. but that's not at all the case. it's possible to be comfortable with and strong through your femininty, just like with masculinity

I love that this kind of feels like “There’s so many ways to be a woman”. My mother once told me not to tell people she’s a stay at home mom because people would criticize her for it. That makes me so incredibly sad. She made her own choice on what she wanted her life to be and that was taking care of my sister and I. It’s a big job and I see that she gives up a lot of herself for it but she says it brings her the most joy. I still see her as a strong woman. Having kids and wanting to care for them or getting married doesn’t change that for me 😊

it’s hardwired in our DNA as women to care for the family, home and children. we’re meant to be nurturers, men meant to be protectors. women struggle with feeling negative emotions more since because we primarily care for the children, we need to be able to detect threats better than men. we are more emotional, which helps to empathize and raise children better. we are meant to be mothers. yes it’s not for every woman in 2023, not every person should even have children. a woman should never be shamed for choosing the job we are meant to do.
@i.cant.sleep.anymore

@@ihateallyallwe can retire the nonsense that "women are more emotional". Just look at history for proof that males have always been more emotional, but really you don't need to even look at history, it's evident now. School shooters are all male and their reasons are always due to their feelings being hurt. Heck, just look at males sobbing with anger over this video. Women have to constantly hear the most vile and disturbing misogynistic comments and "jokes" from males, and women don't get violently angry about it, but males get violent and simple things like this video. Males cannot control their emotions and due to this, the crime stats, which are always majority male, are due to their poor emotional regulation.

Yes!!! I'm so tired of the animosity towards the classic princesses for not being "brave" or "waiting for a man". Not every woman has to be the woman you want them to be!! Also, like, Cinderella went to the ball in spite of her stepmother. That's bravery. She wasn't saved by a man. And plus the only princesses you were really saved by a man were Aurora (who was asleep), Snow White (who was literally dead), and Rapunzel, the latter of which is a very modern princess that fits to category way more than many others. And that's not a bad thing! So maybe let's actually start valuing diversity in female characters for once!!

@@honey6610yes!!! I think people forget that Snow White was an abuse victim, and Aurora had never seen another human being before. She was also under a curse. I wouldn’t really put rapunzel in the “saved by a man” category. If anything they helped each other save each other from the lives they were living before. Rapunzel wasn’t an unwilling party like Aurora and Snow White, she was just as proactive towards her escape as Eugene was. She literally brings him back from the dead, if anything he was saved by her.

Yeah, no. Snow probably isn't here because she's literally the only princess you can't justify. She was a princess kicked out of the house, crashed in a strangers home and married the man who kissed her in her sleep. Aurora gets leniency for her marriage because at least her prince was actively looking for her and fought a dragon. Snows guy literally just showed up one day. It's so not okay, and the fact that's she's canonically around 14 makes things soooo much worse. She's not a princess she's a tragedy. With no moral or happy ever after in sight, just potential marriage to a stranger.

0:11 Honestly, now that I think about it, it's actually the FAIRY GODMOTHER who rescued Cinderella. If she hadn't heard Cinderella's tears, Cinderella would not have gone to the ball, had the time of her life at freedom or met her true love. So overall, Keira Knightly's statement was redundant. Sure the prince was looking for Cinderella but it was the Fairy Godmother's actions that caused this. She was the real hero of the story. So it wasn't a prince, it was a nice old lady who heard the cries of a heartbroken soul and wanted to mend that heart. God bless women like her for her kindness

@catboymonstrosity
@catboymonstrosity Ай бұрын
The way I see it, the fairy godmother is more of a metaphor, and it's ultimately all about Cinderella's strength. Cinderella's heroic quality is her kindness and hope in the face of a seemingly inescapable abusive home, and the fairy godmother comes to her *because* she's got such a good heart and the ability to pull through her suffering. In a way the fairy godmother feels like a representation of Cinderella's own kindness and optimism - because she believes in a world where she can heal and be happy, magic becomes real, and that magic lets her go to the ball and find love and a *family that loves her* (this is such an important part or what the prince provides that is so tragically ignored... she gets married into a new family where she is treated well.) Cinderella is a story about how if you keep living on and believing you *can* be happy someday and value your own future, you can pull through. The fairy godmother is a manifestation of that strength of will to survive and escape your abuse. She takes the form of a 'godmother' because it implies a maternal figure, this one kind and not abusive, and this is a comfort Cinderella longs for. Truthfully, it affects me. I know now that I was abused as a kid and it was always hard to admit it to myself but I don't have the hope Cinderella did, even though I'm now an adult with a job and my own life. I don't believe in happiness for myself. So I really admire Cinderella, even though I'm a grown man. It's just misogyny, straight up, and I didn't realise it for a long time but I now recognise that she's an incredible character and probably helped many children who were more capable of confronting both what they were going through irl and what Cinderella's story really meant.

This! This is what people need to know about princesses. They don’t just sit and wait for their prince charming to come. Cinderella wanted to go to the ball, Ariel wanted to live with the humans, Mulan wanted to prove herself to her family, Anna wants to help her sister as much as she can, Elsa wants to protect her sister just as much, Tiana wanted to open her own restaurant, Jasmine wanted life outside of the castle, Rapunzel as well and still a lot of other princesses alike. They only meet their princes half way through their movie. Cinderella at the ball, Aurora in the woods, Ariel when she saves Eric, Tiana when Naveen came to her in the balcony, Mulan met Shang while being in her father’s place, Anna came across Kristoff while saving her sister. People need to stop stereotyping princesses as damsels in distress. I mean Rapunzel uses a frying pan to hit bad guys, Snow White bosses around seven men and there are a lot of other examples showing that princesses can be badass without being a leader or saving the world. I have been such a Disney Princess girl since small, I remembered going to Disneyland in either my Belle or Snow White dresses and I am honestly disappointed and sad at how princesses are portrayed now, just as some damsel in distress. This is a bit long, but what can I say besides that I like Disney Princess and that they don’t have to be a bad ass girl-boss leader of a castle or nation to make me or anyone else like them.

@@kaeleighrosegold9768 Thank you, I’m glad to know that you also agree that Mulan actually went to the war due to her love for her father who isn’t in any condition to go to the war. Sadly, the 2023 version of Mulan was so flat, if it wasn’t for the action scenes, the movie would have flopped harder. Also for me, just the scene of her not cutting her hair just doesn’t make sense, like I know Chinese people believe that our body is given by our ancestors and cutting hair is like disrespecting our own body but in the context of Mulan who wanted to disguise herself as a man it just doesn’t make sense as all someone had to do was open her hair tie and her true identity will be revealed where as she didn’t want anyone finding that out. Just wished they stick to the og script if they are so scared in offending Chinese, because now, they actually did offend us Chinese by changing too much and adding random ass characters who were never there in the first place and as far as I know there is no legends or myths about witches transforming into birds or anything in Chinese history which makes more of the nonsense Disney added to the film. Mulan is such an iconic Disney Princess, but sadly, Disney didn’t get the moral of her story… or at least they removed everything that made Mulan, well, Mulan.

You don't know how much I needed this. It's really sad how people view older princesses, just because they're not as physically strong and skilled as the newer ones. But they missed a couple of things. First, every princess fought for something. Cinderella and Snow White were child abuse victims. They were slaves in their own house, forced to live in rags. And they kept on smiling and hoping for good things to happen. That's why Rapunze's line, "No one can say we aren't strong, we survived", is so meaningful. Would you really blame them for choosing a marriage over a life of slavery and psychological violence? Ariel fought to love who she wanted to love and live the life she wanted to live (the original fairytale was written by Hans Christian Andersen, representing his impossible love story with a man and his queer identity). She chose to be happy with someone she loved in a place she loved, she chose to be free. Loving something and making a sacrifice for it is not a bad thing. Love is not a weakness, nor are kindness and hope. Also, strenght comes in many forms. Of course, there's strenght in saving a country or in fighting with bow and arrows, but there's also strenght in keeping on a smile and a hope for the world to be a good and gentle place, no matter how everything screams that it isn't, no matter how cruel life is. Dusney princesses are amazing and strong and empowering in their own way, and I adore all of them. That's why I'm proud of being a queer girl who wears dresses abd dances her pain away and keeps believing in love. Love to all the people who were involved with this song, because it's amazing!

Or like how they think the only strong one was Mulan, just because she fought and went to war like a man. But she was strong because she wanted to save her father. Her strength came from a place of kindness and love, which are traits associated with femininity. And are traits that princesses like Cinderella and Snow White had too. So yeah, they’re strong just like Mulan, their story just went a different way.

@@jacksont9455 Yeah, exacly. That's also why I hate when people act like Mulan took her father's armor because she wanted to prove something or to start a revolution. She didn't. She didn't fit in the impossible expectations society put her under, but she never hated dresses and makeup. And she HAPPENED to find a place in the army, and she HAPPENED to save China. She just wanted to protect her father. In the end, she's a girl who likes girly things, who's kind and selfless, but she can still put an armor on and fight and save lives. And I honestly love this, because It shows that being a girl mean a lot of things, and those things can coexist. Princesses are different, women are different, and that's amazing.

you know what i just noticed? the disney princesses being criticized rn (Snow White and cinderella) are victims of abuse. like let’s actually think about that. both princesses were abused by their stepmothers and sure they’re pretty and they got the man but they escaped their abuse and lived their happily ever after. it’s okay to want a prince. it’s okay to be pretty. not every girl wants to be brave and tough and that’s perfectly fine.

As someone who's named Aurora, this was bittersweet. Aurora is never anyones favorite, she is barely in her own movie. And I hated my name for a long time because who wants to be remembered as the Princess who is only known for sleeping and getting rescued? But as ive grown older, I've thought about Aurora and I realized we were more alike than I'd thought. I am a romantic who likes singing lovesongs, my favorite colors are Sky Blue and Pastel Pink. I love sleeping. When you grow up with a princess name, especially a disney Princess one, it can be rough at times. When you introduce yourself you always hear "Oh like the princess", when people call you princess its always as a tease. But I learned to love my name, and the character I share it with because she just wanted to fall in love and be loved. Still its bittersweet. Snow white and Aurora are both Princesses, but they aren't as beloved. Good video, I enjoyed it.

I've loved Aurora since I was little. In fact, she's been my favorite Disney Princess for a long time. Blue and pink are also my favorite colors and as I've gotten older, I've started to love sleeping and napping as well. I think its the coolest thing to share a name with a Disney Princess and I still wish there was a Disney Princess named Victoria out there.😅

Finally! I've been saying this for awhile now, out of all the things these princesses endured, they still remained hopeful, kind, sweet and innocent. Instead of becoming like their torturers. (who usually had similar things in their past but made different choices) it's easy to become bitter and jaded and want revenge, it's hard to stay innocent and kind when everything goes wrong. Even in today's world when society values the hard, jaded and negative. I've been called a Disney princess cuz I'm always smiling and I look at the positive, and I'm innocent. But it's a choice each and every time, and it's not because I don't see the bad, it's because I know it's there and I can't let it bring me down. Innocence is a choice, not lack of knowledge.

People always see how the journey ends No one ever cares about the process, like what happened during the journey, how much struggle a person faced. Just because it was a happy ending doesn't mean that their journey was smooth. We seem to forget that Cinderella was the most kindest Disney princess, she knows how to love unconditionally, she suffered & endured patiently, never wished ill for anyone. She was kind to even small animals. She loved her mother & wanted to wear her dress. She wanted to see the world outside of that basement. She is a dreamer. She is a role model for us to be kind even if the world is unkind. She just wanted to see the ball & if the prince came as a plus then what's wrong with that? She just got a bonus that's all! Her beauty, manner, kindness captured the prince's heart. So why is she portrayed as fragile & damsel in distress? She literally endured all those bullyings!

How many women in today's society that are trapped in a hopeless situation that struggle with depression and anxiety? These princesses didn't allow their circumstances to define how they handle situations mentally, in fact they continued to focus on the positivity in life and always kept their eyes on the light at the end of the tunnel. THAT in itself is inspiring and a true show of strength. Sure they fell in love, it was just a perk.

I love the line about sharing their stories so others don't feel alone. I feel like because many people don't live through these stories beat for beat, they think the stories are entirely invalid. But to somebody who went through the scenario, or something similar, it's empowering. This is something Disney doesn't understand.

24 years ago, Disney released the Disney Princess brand, complete with picture books that failed to deliver nuances that were in the animated movies. 23 years ago, Shrek came out mocking Disney and all of their sacurine values at a time when people were sick of growing tired of Disney thanks to the Disney Princess brand and home media sequels. It became cool to mock Disney then. 10 years ago, Frozen broke the internet with the popular bragging tagline about how Anna and Elsa weren't like other girls-princesses. This music video gives me hope that people have actually sat down and really thought about these timeless tales.

I absolutely love the dynamic between Elsa and Cinderella. Elsa is incredibly respectful and recognizes the value of marriage, while realizing that there was much more to Cinderella than her happy ending. Also, realizing that others can get married, to be supportive of them, but then to realize that she doesn't need marriage to make her happy. Also Mulan: "Whether brawny or bridal, my heart defines me for who I am." And Rapunzel: "No one can say we aren't strong..."

Cinderella and Snow White were able to keep a kind heart despite of their abusive childhood. That requires bravery and a strong heart. Cinderella kept a difiant attitude wherever she can without sacrificing her safety. Snow white took care of strangers in order to hide and survive from her killer. People putting them in a box for choosing to marry a guy and defining their story based off a guy that showed up for less than 10 mins in their movie belittling their life experiences is quite anti-women.

This is the reason why I love Cinderella 3. Not because they “improved” Cinderella’s character, but because it shows how strong and resilient Cinderella’s character already was from the beginning. And if things turned out differently than what happened in the first movie, Cinderella IS strong and she’ll survive just like she’s always had. Whether it’s being resilient and patiently waiting for her and the prince to meet again, or jumping off a deadly pumpkin carriage ride.

You may not, “need a man” but it sure would be nice to have an equal partner with goals in life to share it with. And Cinderella didn’t initially go to the ball to, “find a man.” She went to have one fun night away from people who abused her. She wanted to enjoy herself. Nothing wrong with that. And she ended up falling in love. Nothing wrong with that either. And he ended up finding her after she ran back to that abusive household and she didn’t have to live there anymore and she married someone who truly loved her for having courage and being kind. Nothing wrong with any of that.

Though Jaq and Gus saved Cinderella, they couldn't have saved themselves from Lady Tremaine's cat Lucifer. If it weren't for Cinderella who told her birds to call out Bruno the dog to chase Lucifer out of the match, the mice never would've managed to help Cinderella. Though Tremaine destroyed Cinderella's slipper, she had the second one in store all along. Cinderella didn't win the match with muscle, but she won with brians. And brains are much stronger than muscle I'd say. She was using her head.
