I don't love every choice the NRSV makes where it differs from the KJV/RSV/etc., but I appreciate that it's willing to make different choices when warranted. There's a lot of FUD surrounding it for sure, especially online but I see that with pretty much every translation unfortunately. That is a very nice little NRSV!

I have a similar sized pocket NRSV from Augsburg Fortress Press. It's in storage when I moved and now I use a "normal" sized NRSV.

I like the NRSV-CE. I read from it often. It's my main english bible, and I use the NASB95, the KJV 1611, and the NIV when I want to inspect a particular verse, just like you did here. I find I get a lot of insight from those 4 bibles together, as if I was using some kind of amplified bible. 🙂

What denomination/tradition are you from? Pretty much none of the churches near me use the NRSV. How does the ESV compare to the KJV?

Thank you for your comment. I don't have any experience with the ESV, but it is close too. We are Baptist, but many use the NRSV such as Presbyterians and Lutherans and UCC.

@@joest.eggbenedictus1896 Baptist? What branch? Around me are IFB and SBC and one Freewill Baptist Church. They use the KJV, ESV, CSB, and rarely the NLT in the more contemporary SHB churches.

Dually aligned with SBC and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF). Many CBF churches use NIV or NRSV. SBC not so much.

@@DrGero15 I don't know. I try to mind my own business. We obey God's guidance not the Convention's or the CBF. That's what it means to be Baptist.

Thanks for the information. I had read the RSV and found it very similar to the KJV. I recently bought a NRSV Oxford Annotated Bible. (I will have to keep it hidden since I am at a conservative church and school.

Yeah, well I’m such a rebel not only do I use the NRSV but it’s the Catholic Edition with Anglicized text. I’m not even Catholic. I bring it with me to our Pentecostal church and follow along with the sermon. Something tells me it would not be their preferred translation (especially because I like having my Apocrypha for historical reference purposes).
