1 thing to add onto the color associations of white, is that white is associated with death in some asian cultures. In vietnam at least, the immediate family wears white robes for funerals and more distant family members wear white headbands. Universally, it has been associated with ghosts, with a lot of ghsotly characters and figures being dressed in white.

Blue is a super interesting color, there are still cultures that don't have words for blue and some that don't recognize it as its own color but they see it as a shade of green. Japan didnt have a blue for blue until fairly recently and older chinese people and regions will refer to both blue and green as 青(Qīng) but have a differentiator for them with like green can be 青山(mountain green) and blue being 青天(sky green). Sometimes they will also call black 玄青 which can translate to something like mysterious green, but I don't speak any form of Chinese very well so my exact translations are bad. The common color theory that gets taught, the Munsell theory, also doesnt have orange on it as the system doesnt recognize orange as a color but we have relabeled red-yellow to orange which actually causes problems for the system strangely enough. This system also doesnt work super well and gets taught incorrectly a lot because it only works as a 3d model which it only gets taught as a 2d which is something that Munsell tried to get changed but failed because the system was too ingrained into the school system. He also admitted orange was a color later on in his life. Ostwald is more accurate and Runge is a bit of a mess like Munsell but they never get taught outside of fringe art school classes. People also used to refer to orange and red as the same thing hence why we call them redheads and not orangeheads. Cultural perception of color has always fascinated me. Another funny thing is with chemists yellow is seen as toxic and evil, so even a job can cause color perceptions.

Both the British and Northern Armies of the early 1800s used Dark Green Uniforms for specialized troops and snipers. The British 60th foot, in both Napoleonic Spain and the American colonies wore dark green. Think of the "Sharpe" TV series. Michigan Rangers of the civil war were some of the best snipers of the war and wore Dark Green. Naturally, green helps snipers, but when the British Army is known fr their red coats, they still had specialized units in green. So I would argue it suggests specialty as well.

My Primaris Chapter, the Reavers, colour scheme is grey and black with white being used for honour markings as well as rank & role. With blood red eye lenses. The armour is grey all over, but for trim on the pauldrons, the dome of the helmet (minus the crest), the knee guards and finally the patches of armour on the vents on the power-pack. The aquila on the chest are done in gold. And eye lenses are blood red. Warriors who have distinguished themselves may paint their gorgeet and tops of their knee guards white. For deeds/actions in battle. Otherwise. Rank & role is coded through blacks and whites. Sergeants bear a white crest on their helmet. Lieutenants have the lower half of their helmets painted white. The white crest removed & replaced with grey. Captains have both the white crest and face-guard of both.

@@calumdeighton Well as we say grey is mostly about neutrality so it would really depend on the grey, But they sound more professional than other space marines because if they are mostly grey, black and white they would keep a lot more neutrality than most. So I would say for the amount of grey that you say that they have that is what I would probably take away.

The only thing I really don't like here was in the gold description and history: "city-building cultures" most certainly raided and pillaged, they just called it conquest and stayed there after the fact, and there's not much historical precedent to not polishing gold in Norse and other "raiding" cultures. Furthermore, the Ancient Norse expression of "hating gold", not being greedy, is seen as a key part of being a good leader.

Your biological information about yellow sadly is inaccurate we see in RGBY, We have more cones in our eyes for the colour yellow than any other colour yellow/green stimulates the most cones in the eye this is why chartreuse is used for hi-vis jackets. So yellow is the 'easiest' colour to see as we can even detect it in low light conditions but can be over stimulating in abundance, where as red often gets mistaken for grey or even blue in low light conditions. Red is actually what the eye detects the least of. Our brain works harder when it comes to the colour red and fills in the blanks. This is likely why red is universally associated with action.

@@WhatareyouPaintingnow I can see how it is confusing. it is technically true that we see in RGB we have an area of the eye called the macula lutea, also called fovea or yellow spot, contains a very high concentration of red / green cones. This area is almost specifically dedicated for the detection of yellow. Cioffi GA, Liebmann JM. Diseases of the visual system. In: Goldman L, Schafer AI, eds. Goldman-Cecil Medicine. 26th ed.
