I was the first MD for a newly merged parsih 10 years ago. we ran 3 campuses for a year. I planned this sone for the the first church closing mass. 19 months later, i used this for the second closing mass. I was working in a merged parish with two campuses until May 2024 and did not want to close another church. I mover to an already merged parish. The sting and dissapointment came 11 years ago for them. Anyway, at those two closning masses you could feel the hope in the people as we sang this song. The bishops that celebrated the closing told me that I did things they hadn't done before. I told them I didn't get much support from the Archdioces, so I found liturgies online and made a hybrid. This song and others were monumental.

It’s an exceptional piece of music. She actually wrote it the night before the funeral service of a friend of hers. God bless you and thank you for your story

Once again, I hurriedly must prepare to sing at Mass tomorrow, and here you are, Chris, with whom I sing along -- exactly as the song is written, which is the way my choir partners want me to sing it, so I am now fully prepared. I will sleep easy tonight. Bless you, Chris.

Long before the mountains came to be and the land and sea and stars of the night, through the endless seasons of all time, you have always been, you will always be. Refrain In ev’ry age, O God, you have been our refuge. In ev’ry age, O God, you have been our hope. Verse 2 Destiny is cast, and at your silent word we return to dust and scatter to the wind. A thousand years are like a single moment gone, as the light that fades at the end of day. Refrain Verse 3 Teach us to make use of the time we have. Teach us to be patient even as we wait. Teach us to embrace our ev’ry joy and pain. To sleep peacefully, and to rise up strong. Refrain Refrain You have been our refuge You have been our hope.

Thank you brother, you have been my go to for music I learn to cover for our parish's Mass needs as I don't read music. This song, I already knew, but play it without a capo. I should have tried it like you did, but my fingers already know it the way I do it, but I listen to it to learn the words better. I just wanted to thank you for what you did and let you know what a help it has been. Aloha. I play at Sacred Heart Parish in Naalehu HI. Peace

In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge. You turn man back to dust, saying, “Return, O children of men.” For a thousand years in your sight are as yesterday, now that it is past, or as a watch of the night. R. In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge. You make an end of them in their sleep; the next morning they are like the changing grass, Which at dawn springs up anew, but by evening wilts and fades. R. In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge. Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of heart. Return, O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants! R. In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge. Fill us at daybreak with your kindness, that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days. And may the gracious care of the LORD our God be ours; prosper the work of our hands for us! Prosper the work of our hands!

Hi Chris, you play this very well. It’s a nice hymn. Your intro is short. Are your intro chords G, C, D and EM? The intro on the sheet music is much longer.
@ChrisBrunelle Жыл бұрын
You’re correct, in the OCP Spirit and Song version there’s a much longer and very beautiful intro which can also be used as the ending. In their Breaking Bread version that’s listed as the “optional” intro, although I always do it. That version has marked this short intro that I did. I guess I figured that people wanted to get on to the actual song and not listen to me so the longer intro, but like I said when I do this at a service I always do the long one.

Thank you for clarifying this, Chris. It’s such a lovely hymn and I’ve mentioned it to my fellow musicians in our Church so looking forward to playing it. Thanks for playing these hymns.

Actually, I don't think it's for a particular season, I use it throughout the year anytime there are readings about God being our refuge in times of comfort
