This is a song originally from the Rennaisance, so it is the French from that period, much the way English was different then.

It sounds like a mix of German and Latin. It took me forever to figure out that historic French was really pronounced like that. I would have guessed that In Extremo "invented" the pronunciation themselves to make it sound more special.

It's Old French, probably somewhat from the 15th century.

Mark Napols Also, the lyrics in the video description seem to be wrong. A friend of mine fluently speaks french and she said that lyrics in the description don't fit to the actual lyrics in the song.

chestburster95 I don't kow much about French and even less about Old French (what this text intends to be) but still I don't hear a big difference between text and lyrics sung in the song...When havin a look at the Pavane Thoinot Arbeau includes in his Orchésographie then there is a clear accordance. (Belle, qui tiens ma vie captive dans tes yeux, Qui m'a l'âme ravie d'un souriz gracieux, Viens tôt me secourir, ou me faudra mourir.) The In Extremo version places the word viens at a very weird position in the sentence...as far as my understanding of French goes even in a wrong position... I see that Old French probably sounds different and maybe has different grammar than actual French, but still the lyrics in the Song seem to be weird... This is rather a question to someone with better knowledge of French than an attempt to be wise... Maybe no one will read this...but still I'm very interested in a solution! Cheers!
