Amazing that Takuma Sato prefers a tiny bit of understeer, but when you watch him he's a maniac.
@christosswc5 жыл бұрын
That's why he needs the slight understeer so he can push the car aggressively and get away with it.

If im not mistaken, raikkonen also prefered a more understeery car. I get triggered anytime someone mentions understeer. Just goes to show how each person can have such different driving styles
@MrHaggyy11 ай бұрын
Well you always have to deal with over & understeer around a track. And a decently balanced car allows for both to happen. It's more like what does the driver wants "to happen on it's own" and what "should be forced". Tiny bit of understeer allows you to go full throttle without the risk of counter steer. But to be fastest on most cars you need to keep the tiny as small as possible.

I love how they highlight this stuff. When I was younger I bought many racing books. Most of those books had real basic information. Nothing special. Stuff like what these drivers said is way better info for going faster. In F1 Schumacher preferred a car that oversteered but Senna preferred a car that understeered. Proof that it truely doesn't matter which you prefer as long as you have the nessicary skills.

Well driver and car need to be neutral to be quickest. There is usually one type your driver can control better so you try to setup the car handle the worse for the most part. But throughout at track you will have to handle both.

I preferably like a little understeer then a car that rotates around I drove some carts one nite and jump out of the cart I liked and got in to a kart that was severe over steer it took me a lot but I matched my lap time in the cart that was set up the way I prefer...I like a little understeer because if u make a move on some one u can make another move to counter with an oversteering car u can't make too big a move with out loosing ur line and u surely are not gonna make a second move to counter...with out positive front steer...going in....just me.

Interesting, i like oversteery cars, a lack of front grip really kills me, but i can catch oversteer well and compensate for it

In my limited experience, it depends on so many factors - the corner, conditions, tyres, car, power, brakes (especially brakes!).. I know there's still seconds I can take off my 76-second time at my local track without changing a thing on the car. There's two corners I'm braking too late, one (downhill) where I brake too early and still lack the confidence to commit fully. It's just as well that practicing is so much fun! And the people at the track are great too

So cars with under steer are faster and cars with over steer are faster and you should rotate into the corner and get on the gas. Thanks. :/

so basically, a car that oversteer CAN be fast(or even faster) but a car that understeers cannot be fast(or faster)

It's easier to drive a slightly understeery car fast than an oversteery setup. Especially over time. Most endurance racers will prefer a safer car, more kind on the tires. Keep in mind the off-throttle oversteer from the weight shifting forward and the rear wheels losing grip (mostly MR car) is a lot different than a corner exit skid.
@matti70456 жыл бұрын
Usually oversteering car is faster in one lap but in race is better little bit understeer becouse it's safer and it keep rear tires "alive" longer.
@markmark52696 жыл бұрын
You are confusing rotation with oversteer, as are a few of the drivers.
@PK199117073 жыл бұрын
four and a half minutes of absolutely no useful information. "important to get the rotation right and on to the throttle as early as possible", well no shit Sherlock.
