Great video. I hate having to do major repair work, you took it well staying positive. The original bearing had that multi piece designed and the thrust surfaces will actually come out giving tons of play. I liked the mahle design better. I was lucky enough to have the main cap machined for the thrust bearing so I was able to put two bearings with the thrust surfaces on them. Praise Jesus.

Common problem on these especially on manual transmission pickups with heavy clutches. I’ve done a complete inframe on my 06 Cummins rolled all the mains like you did

Those bearing rattle because they are a two piece bearing that snap together and wish me luck I have to change rod bearings in frame and that oilpan doesn't look fun at all.. the rod bearings are crazy simple but getting the oilpan off is my worry haha and I can't haul my engine lift to my house to do it so it's all up to my Jack's haha

Best of luck brother ! It is a SQUEEZE to get the oil pan off, but definitely possible! Don't be afraid to jack the engine WAY up, the only intereference on mine was the fan shroud, all the other hoses/lines/wires/etc had enough play. No engine hoist needed, just a couple different jacks and some solid pieces of wood. I hope this video helped!!! God bless you brother.

How'd you roll the new one in? Same way you got it out?
@dylantubbs8859 Жыл бұрын
Do you think it would be possible to roll out the rod bearings while your in there? Im getting ready to do this my next weekend
@HumbleHotshot Жыл бұрын
I do think it's possible! I didn't pay real close attention to the rods bearings as I didn't intend to mess with them, but I'd say as long as you can get the end caps off the connecting rods it shouldn't be a problem. It might require that you manually rotate the engine to access each one, but I don't see why it couldn't be done ! Best of luck on your project and God bless!

Did you see any metal spec in oil? I’m seeing specs on my dipstick . Sounds like some noise where tranny meets engine .
@WildFaith9 ай бұрын
I never did see any metal in the oil. Just started hearing the noise and began searching.

Thanks for response just dropped my pain out. Some small particles that look exactly same color of the thrust. Are the main and rod bolts reusable? I’ve had people tell me yes and no . Hoping it is the issue. When my oem injectors failed I did have fuel in crank case. What a nightmare that was buddy runs a parts store for killer deal on delphi injectors well let’s just say that was another 3500 miles of nightmare. Pulled them out replaced with BBI .5s it’s like a different engine now so quiet and smooth. I do not have a knock but does seem to be noise right about where transmission meets engine not quite a knock but sounds like it’s working it’s way to a knock

Do have mine apart. Mains looks pretty good other then one edge of each is sharp number 4 being worse chewed in edge but not on flat surface. Thrust does appear to have more end play then the 17k max. Thanks for video. Did you replace them all or just the thrust?
@HumbleHotshot9 ай бұрын
@anaconda7540 I did the thrust bearing only because I knew that's what was causing the noise. In hind sight, I probably should have done them all.. I had a complete set from mahle but the other mains looked good to me. I don't remember seeing/ feeling any sharp edges. One tip (you may know) it took me a few tries to get the new bearing started. You need to insert just one edge of the bearing and feed it in as you rotate the crank. Don't place the bearing flush on the crank where it goes and try to rotate it in, just start with one side and it will roll flat as you get it started. If you feel too much resistance stop and re-align everything, don't force it. Hope this helps! Good luck under the truck. God bless.

Thank you appreciate your help. Wasn’t sure what brand bearings to buy so ordered oem cummins set I found on clearance sale. I will touch base with you after I compare. Hoping this solves the issue metal on dipstick is scary . After I roll out the thrust and compare it it looks fine I guess I’ll have to check rod bearings next. Only side to side play on them so seem nice and tight . Thanks for videos and help you do excellent work looking forward to more of your videos . the tiny shiny specs I believe are from the tiny gouge in number 1 main can feel with nail but so thin I doubt it’s hurting anything. When it first started had bigger chunks in dipstick that’s my main concern
