That's not how criticism works. "but they just wanted to torture him" Yes? The whole point is that they're assholes. I don't know why you think that recognizing the kid makes it weird for them to torture him. Like, torturing a random thief isn't any better, even in post-apoc setting. Killing out of desperation and survival sure, but torturing? That's psychopath behavior. If another employee would've stolen they probably would've tortured him too. The kid wasn't their friend or anything, he was just a teen who came by to flirt with the owner's daughter while doing some chores. He was fifteen, he hadn't been helping "for years", you just made up that.

Of course this is only a movie. But it is hard to imagine that these creatures would posses any threat to humanity. They are scary if you are alone in the woods. But even a smaller group of people could start hunting them, and drive them away. Plus civilization gone, and suddenly all the guns gone? I would expect survivors stack a bunch of weapons, knowing there is something hunting them at night. Also humans generally tend to fight back, and i would imagine the survivors wouldnt be so called soyboys.
