There is no REAL difference. All, i repeat - ALL radars in WT is placeholder mechanic. There is only measurable difference is scan speed (affects gameplay) and avaliable off-bore angles (almost not affects gameplay) IRL PESA and especially AESA have much more advantage over slot array or dish radars. AESA for example almost immune to any countermesuares. Even active. But in WT it switches to dumb foil spam. Also both PESA and AESA have much more scan speed IRL (it's almost instant actually) but in our game it's reduced "for balance". So it's all fake placeholders.

Scanrate is not necessarily instant, what is instant is the ability to redirect the beam (which is special to PESA/AESA). I think this is already reflected in the TWS mode, not necessarily physically correct, but your TWS track files are updated at a very high refresh rate like in real life due to the instant beamforming. The scanrate itself (to detect targets) is still a function of target RCS, range, power and signal processing and so forth. Captor-M (M-scan radar) apparently for instance is said to have the ability to steer the radar at over 300°/s, in order to replicate high TWS refresh rates, but it's highly unlikely it also scans for target at this rate. There's also videos of (albeit CGI) Captor-E (AESA) showing both the instant beamforming for TWS and more normal scanrate for detection (which is very fast but not nearly what I would consider instant). Though idk if current in-game scanrates are correct, they are faster than most other radars still, but I doubt you'll be able to find any sources on it online... at least it will be very hard. Anyways the TWS is where it's really at, and afaik it's all still underperforming and/or bugged for those E-scan radars in-game.

Both PESA and AESA are types of radar arrays used in modern fighter aircraft, but they have some key differences: PESA (Passive Electronically Scanned Array) How it works: A single transmitter sends a radio wave, which is then directed by phase shifters to individual radiating elements in the array. This allows the radar beam to be steered electronically without moving the antenna. Pros: Simpler and less expensive to produce than AESA. Can scan very quickly. Cons: Less capable than AESA in terms of beam shaping and power management. More susceptible to jamming. AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) How it works: Each radiating element in the array has its own tiny transmitter and receiver. This allows for much greater control over the radar beam, including the ability to shape the beam and control its power. Pros: More versatile and capable than PESA. Can perform multiple functions simultaneously (e.g., track multiple targets, generate high-resolution maps, and jam enemy radar). More resistant to jamming. Cons: More complex and expensive to produce than PESA. Here's a table summarizing the key differences: Feature PESA AESA Transmitter Single Multiple (one per element) Beam steering Phase shifters Electronic control of each element Beam shaping Limited Highly flexible Power management Limited Highly flexible Jamming resistance Lower Higher Cost Lower Higher Complexity Lower Higher In the context of fighter aircraft, AESA radars offer significant advantages over PESA radars: Situational awareness: AESA can track more targets with greater accuracy and detail. Electronic warfare: AESA can be used to jam enemy radar and deceive enemy sensors. Multitasking: AESA can perform multiple functions simultaneously, such as tracking targets, mapping terrain, and communicating with other aircraft.

So, a slight misunderstanding about AESA's ability to multi-task, not all AESAs can perform multiple different functions, most, like the ones on the F-22, EF, and Rafale, can not actually perform simultaneous air to ground and air to air capabilities. To my knowledge the only radars with the ability to simultaneously perform functions like tracking both air and ground targets, are the ones on the F-2 and F-35. With even them lacking the ability to use terrain mapping in conjunction with active search modes.

It takes 6-8 seconds sometimes to get the TWS working even on narrow band (sometimes turning it on and off actually works and you find targets instantly...), you can rarely maintain lock and for some reason you sometimes just glued to big chaff and last but not least you sometimes switch radar lock when shooting your aim120B for some reason. I usually get my radar locks with my HMD and I dont even worry to much about BVR unless I'm not contested by more than 2 people. Works pretty well, I usually get like 2-5 kills a game because people dont check above them once the BVR fight is over and everyone is going for a Notch and they end up close to the ground while I'm going for another run. Multipathing Aim120B's is nearly impossible when they rain in from above.

Ye idk why the F-15E has a 10 year younger radar than the F-15C, F15C radar is from the 1990s and F15E is from the 1980s, and if we already have AESA and PESA radars on those why not have it on the F-15E? And while we're at it, maybe give it to the EF-2000 too?

As @Lulzwhat said in his comment, all radars in WT aren't really accurate and they're all essentially placeholders. That being said, to give a really dirty and basic comparison, modern AESA radars are like having two separate radars in the nose of your plane. A "search" and a "track" radar, not dissimilar to mobile SAMs. One for actively scanning the sky, the other for tracking. This allows the radar to continuously scan the skies, and when it picks up a target, it can essentially hard lock that target while continuing to scan the rest of the scope. In WT on the Rafale this shows itself as TWS giving instantaneous radar updates without the sweep needing to actually pass over the target like on other radars. More advance AESA radars should be able to get an _actual_ hard STT lock (the type of lock required for a Sparrow, for example) on a single or multiple aircraft and still continue to sweep the rest of the scope. Along with that, modern AESA radars more so "scatter" their scan patterns, rather than scanning in a sweep. This allows the radar to essentially scan the entire scope at once (at degraded quality) to paint a picture of the skies for the pilot.

I don't understand how something like the 12.0 Tornado F.3 can end up with a better radar than the 14.0 Typhoon FGR.4. It just doesn't make sense. Also, why in the world would you say the Typhoon has the best radar of its type? - It's incredibly unreliable. It locks things in the sky that aren't even there; - It prefers locking missiles over planes; - its scan speed is so slow it's nearly impossible to use TWS with a 60 degrees horizontal scan range to keep track of a target; - It gets notched all the way from 70 degrees to 110 degrees.

Gaijin have always struggled with radars... None of them are really realistic. First of all, the Typhoon sorry but it's bad and I don't see any difference with the one of an F16, then for the Rafale although it's good it's very very far from the performance of a real AESA radar.
@exonys38382 күн бұрын
Sadly the Rafale radar is nerfed in some points (like max range and scan speed since in game they don’t work like proper AESA/PESA), I tried to make a bug report but the guy only responded « GMTI arrived on F4 standard » that’s false out of the entire bug report only two lines talked about GLMTI… also ATM they don’t work in optimum way of scan like real AESA radar, they are more mecanical radar hidden behind really good refresh rate, they don’t have the multi zones scans etc…
@midako94822 күн бұрын

But the Su-34 radar shouldn't be capable of doing that since it isn't an AESA, a PESA has only a single transmitter for all antennas, the only advantage should be scanning speed, only an AESA can keep an "eye" on a certain spot like that because it has multiple little radars

Mechanical radars can do TWS, AESA can paint an enemy, or several, while continuing scanning... it's not modelled in game
@hagridflower2907Күн бұрын
PESA can't do both things at the same time, but it can "go back" to TWS targets regardless of where the main radar beam is pointed, which should give it an edge over mechanical radar when it comes to TWS.
@Maverick966Күн бұрын
@@hagridflower2907 In a PESA radar there can only be 1 beam, it can't constantly scan other targets at the same time like it is doing in game now, only an AESA can do that
@user-Xx0xxxxxКүн бұрын
@@Maverick966 So, this is actually a fairly common misunderstanding. While yes AESAs can in theory have multiple beams formed at once, that is not in fact an effective method of operation for target acquisition/tracking yet. With all AESAs currently in service only using a single beam at a time*. How they track multiple targets simultaneously is just by just alternating pulses towards it and it's search pattern/alternate locked targets, which PESAs are also capable of. *Modern AESAs do sometimes use multiple beams at a time, however they aren't part of the search/track pattern, instead either A. Being used to keep the target illuminated for SARHs while other scans are being ran. or B. Select ECM capabilities.
