In God's Name Only? Alumni Festival book launch with Dr Daniel Weiss

Is commitment to God compatible with modern citizenship?
Recorded live at the University of Cambridge Alumni Festival 2023, Dr Daniel Weiss discusses his latest book: Modern Jewish Philosophy and the Politics of Divine Violence (Cambridge University Press) with Professor Esra Özyürek.
The book takes on the question of citizenship v faith with philosophers Moses Mendelssohn, Hermann Cohen, Franz Rosenzweig and Walter Benjamin. Re-reading these thinkers alongside classical rabbinical responses to the violence carried out by God and people, Weiss highlights their (hitherto unperceived) radical approaches to politics and Jewishness.
The event was held with a live audience, on site at the Faculty of Divinity and joining via Zoom.
