this is still my favorite part of the movie. "In GOD We Trust". its on every bill and coin. seeing isn't believing. believing is seeing. kids don't have to see a workshop to know that its there. they just know. polar express and santa clause and of course miracle of 34th street. its all about believing with the innocence of the child inside us.

Nab, the mail was a better reason than a phrase on the currency which was only added in to 60's.
@deaded50403 жыл бұрын
The reason the ending was changed is because the United States postal services had been removed as a part of the federal government since the making of the original film...
@LevCallahan3 жыл бұрын
@@deaded5040 I don't think it really matters why. It's like if there were no wheat bread around for your sandwich, so you're forced to use rosemary bread, which you never used before and didn't really want to. But now you use it, and the sandwich tastes 100x better. The 1994 ending is the rosemary bread to the 1947's wheat bread.
@Garrettk413 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I wholeheartedly agree. While acceptance of the existence of God is a legit reason to also accept the existence of Santa, it still doesn't prove that Kris Kringle is he. The mail climax from the original, on the other hand, works better as solid proof, because the U.S. postal service is always required to give the mail to the right person. Granted they didn't send it to court because they actually believed it was really Santa, but it's still more reason to be convinced than simply being reminded of the phrase "In God we Trust".

This ending was switched because the United States Postal Service was no longer considered a branch of the federal government but rather a branch of the extended government which is why they had to switch the ending

A nuance that a lot of people really got confused with when there were recent Federal vaccine mandates. A lot of people seemed to think that the Postal Service was Federal like it was in the 40s. I had to explain how in the 70s a lot of that changed and it kind of became a hybrid government entity/business.

The Postal Service was created as an independent establishment of the Executive Branch by the Postal Reorganization Act (39 U.S.C. 101 et seq.), approved August 12, 1970. The present United States Postal Service commenced operations on July 1, 1971. Also, due to being a part of the Executive Branch, the postal service does not qualify for governmental funding.

In the 60’s the TV network was very very nervous about the production of Its Christmas Charlie Brown and wanted the producers to eliminate Linus biblical quotation. The producers and Charles Schulz both said no and the sponsor (I think Coke) said it’s ok with us so it stayed in. I’m very dubious that it could be done today on broadcast TV. There is an older black and white version from the 1940's starting Edmund Gwenn as Kris Kringle. If your biggest issues with this movie is this ending scene of the trail, you might like the older version better. The 1940's version ending is different, actually matching the ending that is in the book. And in my personal opinion, I think the 1940's version makes for a better legal argument then the one shown. Those my personal thoughts.
