Working model of 4-cylinder in-line engine is fully made of paper (only one detail is made from transparent plastic which allows to see how "gas-distributing" mechanism works). The model runs on compressed air. You can download this model plans here: drive.google.c...

Interesting how the cross plane crank gives it that unique burble like in the yzf r1 and most v8 engines.
@davidrobert2007
@davidrobert2007 8 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. The "v8 sound" should be called the "crossplane crank" sound as that's what it really is. When you hear a v8 with a flatplane crank it sounds just like an inline four with a flatplane crank (ie: dull;). Hardly anyone seems to see this.

great..great..great.. This paper machines work very well and If you within the cylinder is coated with graphite powder (you can use a pencil tip) , it will be more slippery and will not compression leak .. because the paper is "porous" material .. if you use the same cylinders and pistons for stirling engine (power piston) , will work best.... good work !....

I know :) But car engine have 4-stroke cycle, and my model is kind of "2-stroke". The more serial impulses to crankshaft during one turnover the best. With parallel crankshaft we cant get 4 serial power strokes during one turnover.

It is hard to say why your model is not working. Actually no one of my models work from the first time for me too - it is paper :) Also the plans are not ideal, I'm not a professional in it. The only thing that I can advice without seeing actual model - try to ensure that the friction is minimal - it should move very smooth

@nothingssmore
@nothingssmore 7 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say without trying; but if you'll use my templates, please note that the gap between piston and cylinder is already quite small (about 0.5mm), so if you plan to add additional graphite surface, you maybe will want to increase the gap either by reducing piston or by increasing cylinder diameter

I make holes with a modelling knife at most, but sometimes I use punchers of an appropriate diameter. As for the paper with superglue instead of cardboard - yes, I guess it will work, if the sickness will be the same(or at least similar)

Aliaksei Zholner thanks for the reply. I'm planning on 3D printing it so I don't think the part strength would be a very big problem. I've 3D printed the parts for an air engine before and it works well with some metal parts and ball bearings for the crankshaft. I'm just concerned that the valves would start to be held down so hard by the air pressure that they would cause a lot of resistance to opening and then make the engine run worse at higher pressure
