IN Lunatic, Stage 6: Eirin and Kaguya

Path A is the incorrect path in terms of game progress, so even when you win you get the bad ending. This is because you fell for Eirin's tricks, and therefore did not restore the moon like you set out to. If you want the good ending, you have to play Stage 6B, not 6A.

During the game you collect time orbs, that unlock special attacks at the end of the stage if you have enough. If you pull this off, each stage advanced the clock by a half hour, instead of and hour. At the end of the game, Kaguya uses her magic to rush time forwards until 5:00AM, where the night ends. Depending on how well you do each spell will add an hour, a half hour, or nothing on capture. You get a substantial bonus for all the time you have left before 5:00AM.

You like reaching the final boss with starting resources it seems! This end part is also incredible. Especially at the pseudo-loop part in Voyage 1970 (It's actually a slightly different song after it loops!) where it jumps a mile in intensity. The way Kaguya's dialogue happens between attacks only increases this. Such a simple thing; she could just as easily say it at the start, but somehow an extra line of dialogue per spell makes each one feel so much more important.

I hate the feeling of helplessness you get during kaguya's final spell rush. On normal I can capture all of them with little trouble, but on hard+, I just can't do it :(

~Tactics continued~ Life Spring Infinity: I can't really get through this without some heavy bombing. Get to the top, squeeze between the lasers, wait until the stars reach you, then dash into them. If you're lucky, you'll miss, but otherwise, bomb. Hourai Jewel: Tactic not perfected, but wait at the bottom, squeeze through, dash to the upper-right corner unfocused, hopefully squeeze through, and from there just dodge like a headless chicken. ~More tactics in next message~

Seeing my previous comments, it's amazing how far I've improved. Almost game over with 7 life start on Normal to be able to 1cc Lunatic on this consistently(with Border Team, I suck at the others). 2 miss as my best clear and 0 miss possible. Lunatic 1ccs elsewhere, but not consistently. UFO Hard still kicks my ass all over the place as does most of the Lunatics most of the time. I wonder how well I'll be doing with more time. Never thought I could play Lunatic when I started many months ago.

The difference between Final A and B is huge. Eirin's a lot more brute-force (Esoterica = trap and bombard with death!) while Kaguya really makes her attacks beautiful- but deadly- to look at. It's echoed in their themes; Eirin's theme is highly charged while Kaguya's is a lot more graceful and noble. Yet another example of how ZUN can make even glowing lights and laser beams give real insight into his characters, and write themes that suit.

I thought I was good when I straight cleared this on easy...insane job clearing this on Lunatic. btw, even if the last last Spell moves the time to 5:00 AM, you still get the good ending.

With Yukari and Reimu, Yukari has this very, very useful ability where you switch from one side of the screen to the other, if you press the right button (if you're stuck on the right) twice without shooting. It saved my lives1

I got in before 5AM! But yeah, not a single capture. I usually do well in practice, then fail horribly in my actual runs. I might go for an all-cap run of this stage someday.

~Tactics continued~ Buddhist Diamond: There will always be a small gap around the bottom middle. First wave, move slightly from the middle at the bottom. Next wave, get into the large area, and commence dodging. Repeat. Salamander Shield: You're good at the bottom for the first two waves. Third wave, go slightly to the left, and then run to the right unfocused. Dodge another wave, run again. The fast streaming should leave big gaps in the lasers. ~More tactics in next message~

4:20, I always found it easier to go closer to Kaguya. The blue bullets change direction very little, and very minutely, so it gives me more time to ...prepare for the red bullets. I dunno, works for me.

Also need to try to 1cc this thing again, but game overing on Lunatic Hourai Jewel after making it to Reisen with only 2 deaths and not being able to consistently(or actually since then) just ruined my will to try it for a while.

4:14 You're not alone. Kaguya's last non-spell is the most hypnotising attack in the whole game for me, not any of the Reisen's ones. The first time I've 1cc'ed lunatic I was hit by SUDDEN SLOW RED BULLET OUT OF NOWHERE there. Shoulda look wider.

Well, with Lunatic, I have tactics for each card on Final B. Doesn't mean they're good. Galaxy in a Pot: Go upwards just as the small dots are about to hit you. Slip through the gap between the top 'stream' and the left 'stream'. Repeat going down. Dragon Necklace: Get between the bottom and Kaguya, in the middle. Graze the first wave, then move down and dodge, looking to see where the normal bullets are lightest. Carry on. ~More tactics in next message~

good job. I've never cleared a touhou game on lunatic. I've 1cc'd all win games on hard except for SA. I'm at the skill where you can just kinda wing hard, you might die a few times but you'll get it soon enough ramming your fingers against it. luna is like you need to develop a strategy of where to stream in stages (or rip one off an established run). I have a really bad memory and a really big "fuck that I'm not gonna look at how other people do it" mentality so I have no luna 1cc's lol.

This may be the easiest game in the series, but only because you get such good life insurance upon hitting a bullet. I find Kaguya and Eirin to be one of the hardest last bosses in terms of raw attack difficulty. That hourai jewel attack is seriously where the rubber meets the road.

I have literally never even messed with kaguya in IN, since her spells are so much harder to me than Eirin's. I can barely even do most of her normal ones in spell practice, whereas I have captured every one of Eirin's normal cards (besides Hourai Elixir, which i might be able to do after beating MoF extra :O). But seriously Kaguya is HARD.

Kaguya is extremely hard for me. Had to set my starting lives to the maximum just to have enough to beat her on Normal. Even Mokou is easier than her to me. Though I still haven't beaten her due to Fujiyama Volcano and Possessed by Phoenix taking too many lives. Hourai Doll wouldn't be an issue for me with the lives I lose to those.

@SadisticPenguinOfAND well to be fair I'm not skilled enough to play on lunatic in and Touhou game. I have only managed to 1cc most games on normal, with IN on hard once with some very liberal bomb spamming. SA still gives me a lot of trouble and I cant even beat Utsuho with continues :S
