Very nice tribute. I only knew of Lanny Poffo in his WWF days, in both the Leaping and Genius personas. He was never a champion then but always entertaining. I remember his poems always put a smile on my face. Lanny's poetry is, in some respects, the precursor to today's wrestling rappers like Max Caster of The Acclaimed. Max's stuff is witty but it'll never beat the classic rhymes of The Genius. RIP Lanny Poffo, you will be missed. 🙏

Thanks for posting. I grew up in Memphis and recall most of these scenes. Viewing this brought a few things to mind: Both Randy and Lanny had good, athletic physiques at that time, although Randy was more lean than Lanny; plus Lanny was an inch or two taller than Randy. Also, I was at the Coliseum for the match when Randy put Ricky Morton thru a table. Years later, when ECW and others started using tables I remember thinking, "So what? We saw this years ago in Memphis." I didn't understand what the excitement was over using a table. I thought it happened regularly.

What a cool life he lived. The first PPV I saw was Royal Rumble 1990, I then saw Wrestlemania 6 after that. I was born in 1981 so I was only 8 years old when I first started watching WWF. Even being a kid I thought the Genius gimmick was cool. I liked the poems he would read and always wondered why he disappeared. Thought he was a guy they should have brought back during the Diesel/Mabel years when I was hoping they would do something to make it better like it was a few years before, a lifetime before to me at that time.

Randy clearly had the bigger, more successful career but looks wise, I think Lanny was way better looking than Randy from his flexible physique to his handsome smile down to his hair and goatee beard. Back in the day if I saw them before they blew up, I wouldve thought Lanny would have been the one who would've reached superstardom out of the two brothers. Crazy how the wrestling zeitgeist chose Macho out of Paffo brothers. I remember when he was the genius, and he was literally doing cartwheels and backflips like a gymnast.
