I can't believe my luck to have stumbled upon Ossian in a Glasgow pub in 1977. The music still pulls at my heart to this day.

Tony was a family friend and my first exposure to live music as a kid in the 90s was seeing him and his friends play on our porch, or in their living room in arlington. This guy was the first person who showed me that playing music was something you could just do for fun with your friends, something for everyone and not just rock stars and celebrities. I got into playing music via punk rock but I loved it for the same reason and ~25 years later as I've shifted towards folk music I've been thinking a lot about how those jam sessions shaped the course of my whole life. really love to see that he touched so many other people and that people are still listening to these songs.

Tony and George were two of the nicest, friendliest, and most talented musicians i have ever met. Likely no lifespan is long enough, but theirs was much too short.

Tony and the crew ceilidh'd near our home on Barra Glen, Cape Breton. We got right drunk. I picked a fight. I'm from N'n Alberta, but family is Breton. FWIW I earned my kids presents by playing such as this on the streets of Halifax. Oh, even Sydney~

How we loved Tony Cuffe, His parting was one of the hardest losses to bear. Bless him for kindness, authentic nature and the beautiful music he left with us. It is wonderful to see that young face again, as we knew it in Cambridge when his boys were small and he was so alive! thank you for this post.

In 1970, after arriving back in Greenock from spending 10 years in Whitley Bay, I went to St. Columba's High School in Peat Road where I met and befriended Tony with our shared passion in music. He was, at 16, so adept at any instrument he picked up. I remember him sitting next to me in class and saying "do you know my name backwards is e-ffuc?"

J'ai tellement aimé ce groupe.. J'ai même baptisé un de Mes voiliers de leur nom... Jamais je ne me laisserais de leurs albums qui sont tous des chefs d'oeuvres.

Hi Liz - glad you enjoyed the video. As you can see from the posts below, Tony is missed by many people. I have posted several other clips of his music on KZbin if you search for them. Some of the recording quality is poor I admit, but I think better than losing the music altogether. Best wishes.

Thank you sharing this! I took lessons from Tony Cuffe in the Boston area. Traditional music sessions, private guitar lessons and tin whistle. He had a wooden puppet that he’d make dance on a wooden board at shows around town. He was such a lovely man with a beautiful family and is greatly missed. He was taken to Heaven much too early. May he best resting in perfect peace. 🙏🏽❤️ Denise from MA

DOUGLAS HADDEN I was fortunate to hear Ossian play in Charleston WV at a FOOTMAD (Friends of Old Time Music ) concert, in the early 80s I think it was. They have always been #1 in my book, of all the Scottish groups (and I admire several), and Tony and William Jackson especially contributed to their uniqueness for me. I especially love Tony's choice of songs, many have become favorites.

+DOUGLAS HADDEN this is an awesome memorium many thanks. I had the delight of seeing them quite often, they toured a lot back then thru Dallas, Tx at our small little intimate pubs but we always a full house when Tony and tha Lads came to town. Sadly I had only purchased one of their albums which has for years now been lost, went to tha place where the the single socks dwell after they escaped from the laundry. Is there anywhere that we can still order cd's?? do you know if tthey maintain a website??? I've had to be on quest over hill and dale and zip found and here we are25-30 years later I can't tell you what an absolute delight for my soul. Speaking of souls George and Tony RIP AND GODSPEED

Thank you so much for this. I had never seen it before and KZbin was kind enough to forward through email. Back in the 80's I bought my Ossian casettes from St. Ninnians in Northern Nova Scotia. It was only 1500 miles from my work as I owned property in Cape Breton Highlands, and rightly felt, twas the only proper place in all of North America to listen and call "home." Lol
