How does that help? You still have to turn your inverter off, that is also what causes a huge battery draw. When you turn the inverter off Starlink will automatically disconnect.

Stark is good but my go to is Glidecoat. I hope the graphics were applied between the final polish & the coating application. Annnnddd days after watching this on the buoy in Eagle Harbor, the Admiral told me we had a leak over the door in the master head...turned out to be a hole in the windscreen sprayer lines that suddenly manifested, flooded the area under lower helm, and we have in boat waterfall! Borescopes, the new version of the old dental mirror for peering into tight spaces. But WHY do most seem to come with 16 foot cameras? We have a few at our office for the occasional site visit and while I rarely use them myself it looks like my coworkers are wrestling an anaconda using them. But thank you for the reminder. Perhaps I can find a more rigid snake version in shorter length as I keep forgetting to buy one. Will need it as I am hunting for my first boat. Something in the 1980's 30-35 range. Large enough to be comfortable on, but small enough a novice has at least a chance to handle it themselves. And not so expensive that if I do put a few scrapes on her I will cry. Something like a Carver Mariner or Sea-Ray Sedan Bridge (river/lake use only). Thanks for the video.

Thanks for reviews on this subject- did buy and install a gen 3 which followed your results for speed and connectivity. On a short trip to Desolation it was a game changer for weather voice calling and other conveniences. Also dislike powder coated aluminum and used the TRIO Flat-mount pole mount which works great and gives a slight tilt. It is installed on low profile 5 inch 316 mount on top of pilot house. I did this as I was worried about windage I also have run it with a custom canvas cover over it (Snow-melt feature turned off) and it seems fine and is further “marinized”against flying salt spray from any angle.

do you not think that in a very strong gust, the size of the dish catching wind could be lifted up on one side and therefore act as a release on the snap mount base? This seems to me really a badly thought out design. It at least needs a lug gluing next to the mount once snapped in, to stop it moving outwards ( and releasing)?

Your video series on the StarLink comparison are very well done and informative. Thank you! I see on the TRIO Flatmount website options for suction cups and VHB Landing Pads and Release Lever. I'm curious why you didn't consider these options. Obviously you didn't feel they would provide proper purchase. My application would be on the Coachroof non-skid, so suspect it just won't stand the test of time and rough seas.

If anybody's paying attention the maritime plan that cost $5,000 a month is nothing for a large cruise ship they're charging anywhere from $15 to $30 per day per device so if they have 5,000 people all paying $15 a day they're bringing in literally hundreds of thousands of dollars for like a 7 or a 10-day Cruise or whatever and they're paying $5,000 a month literally pennies to them

I would also recommend looking into "locking clips" for those breakers you typically NEVER want to turn off (refrigerator, bilge, etc). You can still remove the clips if you have to turn off the breaker for maintenance.

Good news.. The Gen4 was just certified by the FCC as approved for in motion. The Roam plan supports speed over 8mph, when Priority Mode is selected ($2per GB). facebook.com/share/p/aEBNMtb8aJUvS8SM/?mibextid=K35XfP

IPX doesn't matter. It's the SEVEN in IP67 that matters. If they're both SEVEN, then they can both handle Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 meter (3 ft 3 in) of submersion). But I just looked it up, the high performance flat antenna is rated IP56. Water projected in powerful jets (12.5 mm (0.49 in)) against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects. That sucks. The whole point of getting that one was FOR THE BOAT. Boats often get a wave over the deck. Well...SPIT! :-( However, the HPflat supposedly tracks better while in boat motion, pitching, yawing, rolling, etc. and is ostensibly the ONLY one that will work offshore.

Great videos about the Starlink options guys...Thank you!! I have a question...my husband and I are moving onto our new boat soon (full time) and looking for the right configuration. My husband does Zoom meetings 4 days a week from anywhere from 1-6 hours a day so Zoom is important. We will be starting out in Thailand (where the boat is being built) for a month, then it will travel around the Cape of Africa and up into the Med. After 1-2 years it will head over to the Caribbean. Cost is less of an issue for us...but we are not sure what can and can't be done and obviously we don't want to spend on something we wont' need. We were thinking of going with the Roam Dish and the Roam package and just use the priority toggle if / when we need priority service...but after listening to your video where you mentioned Zoom, my husband thinks maybe we need the High Performance dish. This would come in handy during those ocean crossings but we wouldn't be on the boat during those times and professional crews would have alternatives. So if we go that route can we still subscribe to the Roam plan and use the priority toggle when in a busy area or when going over 10mph ? OR if we do the high performance dish are we forced into the High Performance plan? Also on the plans page of Starlink's website it says the Boat plan is Global. I suspect we would need to use that anytime we are out of our "home" country? Do you know if that is the case? Thanks so much for your response!!! Looking forward to it.

We use the Roam plan. It’s $150 per month and can be ‘paused’, when not used. It supports ‘in motion’ up til 8 mph and then cuts out. If you need in motion over 8 mph or high priority speed in a congested area, you can select high priority in the app for $2 per GB. You can toggle it off when you are done. Most flexible plan for boaters IMHO.

Thanks for the quick review. I bought the Flat High Performance 'primarily' for my home in SWFL - after suffering through 150+ MPH winds during Hurricane Ian two years ago. I've mounted it on a telescoping flagpole and wouldn't expect to leave it out through another 150+ MPH wind, but hope it may be able to last through ~70-80+ in the corner it is mounted in. And it's easy enough to lower and pop off the pole for a big wind. I also plan to assemble a mount for my boat and (the Florida) trips that I take. I could consider this Gen3 as a replacement (if ever necessary), if there is a chance that it could be mounted for winds greater than 60MPH... which is laughably low in FL. I must say that the Flat HP shows essentially no obstructions at its reception angle, in pouring tropical rains, with great speed and latency at its very worst... so far. If it doesn't blow off my flag pole in a surprise storm, I'll be okay.
