When fabi played h4, they both only had like 30 seconds left so fabi probably just played that instead of wasting precious time find the best move or even a plan since he didn't see anything obvious. Then next move magnus played a4 and then it becomes obvious what fabi needed to do.. stop the a pawn from queening. When Magnus was offered the chance to sac the Queen, he only had 15 seconds left, and by the time he retreated his queen, he only had 8 seconds. Maybe he thought it would be worse for fabi to leave the pieces on the board, since after saccing it would simplify the game. Granted, it would be simplified into an easy win for someone like Magnus, so maybe he just missed it or didn't want to calculate anything with 15 seconds left and counting. Tick tick tick. These things happen during time trouble and high stress situation. The game was complicated enough as it was and they had been blitzing out the last 10-20 moves already. The fact that Magnus or Fabi made so many best moves with just one or two inaccuracies(like h4 which isn't even that bad and was a good practical move when you don't know what to do and have no time to waste on coming up with a plan) at the end is already insane.

Fide needs to update Classical Time Format. 1 hour and 20 minutes for the first 40 moves and 20 extra minutes after move 40 with 30 seconds increment per move after move 40. That's plenty of time especially when you considers players are preparing lines 12-15 moves deep before the match with their chess engines. This will shorten the overall length of the games so we won't have 5 or 6 hour long games, 3 hour game on average is long enough so the viewers won't get bored and this leaves enough time for players to calculate and play the best chess and they won't be as tired so the next day they will be more fresh for the next game.

I'll an elderly middle aged man and I'll second what Epic said. We live in interesting times. Now here's a topic of conversation: what if Carlsen, undoubtedly the greatest chess player of all time, turns out to be a fraud, who is using Stockfish wired to his body? That would be a bigger scandal than when cyclist Lance Armstrong admitted to cheating after winning numerous awards and being tested thoroughly. I personally don't think that's possible however, though for about $200k one could design a two-way transceiver or even an "on board" chess computer to give you moves in real-time.
@darthkek19539 ай бұрын
The evidence against this is Carlsen plays amazingly over the board in very short timeframes where it would not be possible for an engine to receive the board state, analyse the game, and find a way to let the player know the optimal move. He has been proven, on camera and in person, to be able to play fast rapid and blitz.
@bigolboomerbelly43489 ай бұрын
GMs are all stripped down and sprayed with powdered graphite at tournaments for this very reason.
@raylopez999 ай бұрын
@@darthkek1953 Yes that's a good point. Even with a on-board computer, making a snap decision is hard to do, due to delay. But what if MC is "only" a 2500 Elo player, not a nearly 2900 one? Also there is a weak chess engine that can read your PC screen and recommend a move at bullet time control; a few years ago somebody demonstrated it on KZbin. I bet however the strength is like 2100 Elo Fide not greater.
