What seems crazy to me is that they are so identifiable across such a wide range of songs - from this one to Nothing Else Matters - to We Don't Talk about Bruno - and still we know.

Great reaction D. This was filmed in a room in Layne's house. He had to staple black curtains over the windows outside. Everything in the room relates to each member in some way. I saw the Beach Boys several times in concert. Loved this song then and love it now. Voiceplay does a fantastic job as usual.

Deejay Young is amazing with VoicePlay. I messaged DJ on Instagram saying he and VoicePlay should cover "My Girl" by the Temptations. A lot of songs in 60s was harmony heavy IMO, so lots of material for VoicePlay to cover.

Love your reaction!! This is SO different from the last cover that they did, and as always, doesn't sound like the original. I suppose it would be easy for some to be disappointed for one of those two reasons. But Voiceplay is Voiceplay. Complete creative/artistic control means that they can do whatever they want, and it is always genius. Thanx for supporting them!!

Whether it's Layne or Geoff, or even Eli, their arrangements are genius. Always, and it's done with agreement - on the whole (possibly the occasional query - so they are happy with the parts they are given. And it shows. They started on this one a way back around the time they did the Chipmunks one, as DeeJay was available, but it was put on hold while they did the last one with J.None as he was available. Schedules play a big part in who guests when.

In addition to their arrangements, their attention to the look of the video helps make them distinctive. This was filmed in Rayne’s Room Recording Studio. Owned by Layne, they have filmed many videos here including ACA Top 10s and Chandelier. For a 360 degree view of the studio, check out Pattycake Production’s Disney Girls Like Me. When Layne dressed the set he included items for each VoicePlay member, Deejay, his daughters, his grandmother, and his wife’s family. Items he added for himself included his violin, his hoverboard and a book of his favorite Disney movie.

Deejay Young is currently in the touring company of Hamilton, so they get him when he has a break and it’s convenient. I love his sound with these guys so the more often the better! Great reaction!1

I LOVED the beach Boys in my youth (still do). However, this particular song was never one I much cared for. Then along came Layne Stein and Rob Dietz. What a superb arrangement. The Beach Boys DID have nice harmonies, but in this song, I thought they were just a tad boring. The Voice Play version keeps the 'basic' structure and lyric of the original, but this arrangement is just sick. Some of the harmonies and changes re truly amazing. As always, great reaction, D!!
