I will read Park's book if I find it. I had not heard of it before watching your review of it here. There is an old saying about writing and life: "FACT IS STRANGER THAN FICTION". Often this is true. I love reading nonfiction, especially biography, autobiography, and memoir. A memoir is simply a less-formal autobiography, which may focus on one certain period or activity in the writer's life. A memoir is simply a section of an autobiography. Such genres are also classified as history, because they describe a person's life at a time in history, and are in fact the history of an individual during a certain period in time. I may have mentioned this previously but again here it is: one of the best memoir's I have read lately is titled OUT OF THE NIGHT by Jan Valtin ( Richard Julius Herman Krebs). But here is another book that I am currently reading and it is a double-biography of an extremely amazing couple who travelled in remote places in the 1930s and 40s, and later sailed around the world; all in the most-basic of living conditions, and with the most-basic of clothing, equipment and food. The title is: 'HIGH ENDEAVOURS ~ The Extraordinary Life and Adventures of Miles and Beryl Smeeton ', by Miles Clark, published by Douglas and MacIntyre in Canada in 1992. It's a long book to read at 430 pages, but it is packed with their interesting biographies and incredible adventures, and with their deeply passionate love for each other.

I’m currently reading the book and to put this in one word I’d say this is Heartbreaking, thinking about it was a real story and this is what hundreds of people are living now while the entire world looks in other direction is hopeless. However the book is highly recommended.

So sad that she felt just as oppressed in her freedom of speech in Columbia University as she did in North korea. I was happy to read about her like in North Korea since I’ve been to South Korea so many times

The "little stories" you mentioned is why you must read the book... You said that you read it because its bout north korea so the little stories might gain some extra knowledge bout their culture and suffered being there... My english is bad but i hope you get the point

Yes, of course. And obviously it's a memoir, so sometimes things don't go in the Hollywoodic way. I totally get it. But something about the "timelines" bugged me, how she will jump from one to another. Maybe there could have been a better way to tell them or spread them across her main story.
