“No humans deserved to be oppressed just because of their birthplace” My heart weeps for the pain you went through, I am a daughter of immigrants who came to the US to give their children and families back home a chance at a better life. They crossed the boarder and watched people they cared about get left behind or killed. Seeing immigrants kept in cages in the US breaks my heart, seeing them get denied even basic things or human rights. It’s not the same situation but my heart breaks for your people as much as it does for mine. I understand the pain of seeing most of the world turn a blind eye as your people are left to suffer, or treated as less human just because of where they were born. Never forget that even people you don’t know love you, care about you and are so very proud of you. Always remember how strong you are and how proud your ancestors must be of everything you’ve accomplished

Considering how many people are immigrating to america, my guess is that's why they have to be more strict about it.But the immigrants are deffinietly not being denied basic human needs or rights. The just are not citizens of america, and don't have the rights a citizen has.If I illegally crossed into a neighbour country they would imprison me aswell.

@@ivonastrukar4715 we aren’t talking about laws. We are talking about treating humans like basic humans. Lots of these ppl would technically be considered refugees. Think about why they are willing to leave everything and everyone they grew up around behind. Just because the US seems more fun? Please get with it.Yes they are actually denied basic rights, doctors were turned away for vaccinations and donations of masks were also turned away. Children were made to represent themselves in court, because a child has a clear understanding of what’s going on. This post was meant to be a positive post, please stay away with your narrow minded way of looking at the world. I don’t care to hear it and I don’t care to even discuss this further with you.

@@sirenelectric143 They are being treated like illegal immigrants. If everyone played the refugee card then anyone could get in.There is a process to sort out real ones from fake ones. They are not being denied access to food or hygene. They have stepped onto foreign land and cannot expect to roam freely and be able to do whatever they want. Black people were able to freely enter Canada for obvious reasons. But now it's not as simple as that, there are many different ethnic groups from many different parts of the world.

@@ivonastrukar4715 the children are kept in cages and there are many that "disappeared". You don't treat people, let alone children! in that way. They are also denied health-care and good hygiene and healthy food. What USA is doing to these immigrant children and even adults, is inhumane.

@@sirenelectric143 Seems we are talking about two different things. The content presented is about oppression of the citizen, yet we are drawing lines to treatment of the illegal entry of persons into a sovereign state. There is a profound difference in the argument that you are making. One is the cause, and the other the effect. To say that we are, from a humanitarian perspective, responsible to take on the fallout from someone from an active inhumane perspective is, from a world perspective, nonsense. Every other county has the right to exercise sovereign practices, but ours? You say we aren't talking about laws, but what does that mean? I'd be willing to bet that the whole "cages" thing is that you are hung up on is far more humane than what other countries perform...if there is another country that attracts others. We have a legal process for immigration. And before anyone tells me how broken it is, I will ask for an official process from another country.

In my country (Slovakia), not much people knows about the North Korean refugees problems of escaping and starting new life. All what people here know about N.K. is that there is crazy dictator, communizm and ICBM's. I heard a lot of stories like yours and I have to say that we can't even imagine what you came through - even when you are almost the same age as me :'( I know it's so hard to talk about this, I know it could bring the pain back, but please, be strong and talk about this as you do. World has to know that people are suffering there, that it's not the people, it's the regime which drains everything from it's own nation. Maybe you don't know, Slovakia was part of Czechoslovakia 30 years ago. We lived under communist rule for around 40 years and we managed to end this era by peacefull protests and without guns in 1989. Now we are part of European Union and NATO, we have the democracy and although there still are problems, we live freely and we, as a small nation have a voice in the world through EU. I wish you, and all the North Koreans to manage what we did - peacefully and without fear of your lives. Keep up with your channell, you are doing a great work ;)

I just bought your book, sweet lady. I am so, so sorry for all your suffering, and for those who continue to struggle in your country of birth. I have had some measure of pain in my life, and am old enough to probably be your Grand-mother! I have found, that the best way to help a hurting heart, is to grasp those moments of joy, for the blessings that they are. Sometimes, we are lucky enough to string enough light and love times together, to at least, ease some of the pain that we continue to carry within. I hope that your new life and family here, has bathed you with all, and more, of the happiness that we all should have and deserve. Thank you.

Thank you for making a KZbin Channel ! Now I can ask directly questions to a North Korea defector. I was very busy with North Korea and their refugees in The Last months. It's Wonderful to See that a people of North Korea can live now Like a normal human being. And it's unbelievable that you didn't see your sister Eun-mi for seven years while she was at a labor camp in North Korea and you didn't know that. It's unbelievable that you and your mother have arrived Mongolia after crossing the cold gobi desert. And it's unbelievable that Hongwai has done that things to you. Now you're a normal citizen who lives in New York and in Seoul before. I live in Germany. And my parents came from Afghanistan to seek refuge at a better place.

You are one of the strongest people I have ever seen in my life. Coming from a semi dictatorship country like iran I can feel her pain. Of course what she went through was thousands of times more horrible and the fact that she made it out of that place is such a victory. You are a beautiful soul and deserve the best in the life.

I watched this all those years ago, and it made me cry then. Listening to your story again tonight has had the same impact on me. To think of all the people who still feel hopeless and forgotten, it breaks my heart. I think the part of your story that hit me the hardest, is when you said at the end, you thought no one would care about your story, but we do. So many of us truly do, we pray and hope, and many would die to help. One day I believe I will live to see n.korea free!

I read Yeonmi's book a few months ago. We were born the same year and it's heartbreaking as I imagine putting myself in her shoes. The saying about mothers being strong brought me to tears. Even though her background was tragic, I am so happy that she has such loving parents. Thank you for the amazing voice you have!

Puts all of our petty grievances in perspective to see how horrible people are actually treated in NK and China. How terrible. Thank You Yeonmi for your dedication to raising awareness of this matter.

I'm discovering her very late .. but she is just the strongest human ever alive .. she faced a loot just In teen age when that lil hands deserved more love and joy ... I really can't stop crying .. we people in other countries are free still we cry for freedom from our parents ... Guys .. think of them who never knew the real world ... I really hope that every human race and each and every organism live their life to the full... We humans are forgetting that we are humans and we do have humanity within ... Just because of greed ... I really hope that in future humans live as real humans like no boundaries matter any more ... Just imagine the terror free world and that smile on each and every face , passing love to each other and enjoying their freedom in their limits ... And that's goona be a day when human goona win their real humanity Really headsoff 💫 to you... You did really great work ...
