Big Thunderstorms were forecasted to roll in around noon in Northern Utah. I really wanted to go do Scofield Ice Off, but the drive didn't seem worth it with the uncertainty in the weather timing. Instead I stayed local and went to a stillwater that produces nice Cutthroat Trout. It took me a few hours to figure out a location and method, but we got there!

Ok I think I’ll start with 15’ two fly. I’ve tried this before but seems my tag tied fly would be tangled. Maybe I was using too small of tippet material. Thanks again…I love stream fishing but two years ago after watching you Stillwater fishing from your tube I bought the same tube and omg I love fishing from it. I’m 70 and no kidding I’ve spent many 8 hour days fly fishing from that thing.

Bob can you tell us again what technique you’re using to tie in multiple flies when still water fishing

On a typical 3 fly leader for stillwater fishing, I go (in order from fly line to point fly): 1) 5' of 16 lb. Fluoro to a tippet ring; 2) 5' .009 Fluoro (or 2x to 3x) to a triple surgeon's knot typing off the tag; 3) 5' .009 Fluoro (or 2x to 3x) to a triple surgeon's knot typing off the tag; and 4) 5' of .009 Fluoro (or 2x to 3x) to the point fly. This leaves you with a 20' leader. You'll need to cast this rig with properly grain weighted stillwater lines and a rod that can carry the kinetic energy through the line and leader to turn it over. A two fly rig is much easier to cast and present if the 3 fly rig is a hassle. For those I usually just leave out a 5' section and have a 15' leader instead.

Do you think that the breeze coming up helped the fish bite. Where I fish it always seems to get better with the little breeze.

Absolutely, a little chop on the water always helps on stillwaters. Also, with the storms rolling in the pressure dropping also probably helped too.

Rising Net in the Brookie size with the extended handle. I use the normal handle for stream fishing and the extended for stillwater/boat fishing for just a little more reach. I am test driving some other nets at the moment as well.

Are you using a 6wt on this trip?

Yes. A 10' 6wt Hardy Ultralite for the midge tip. I was throwing the Baitballs on a 10' 7wt Hardy Ultralite and the indicator rig on a 10' 5wt Echo Stillwater.
