In this episode Sean and I talk about choosing the right sounds for the song, and wear our love for the fab four on our sleeves. Just like in Ep. 1, I leave all of our takes completely unedited, and try to make it feel as much like you're in the studio with us as possible.

When you guys said that there was no reason to try to record everything in one take I thought of Miles Davis and how so much of his particular sound is from recording an entire song in one or two takes. More importantly than a random miles Davis related observation is how amazing this kind of content is. As a college music student I can’t tell you how valuable it is to see professionals just go through the process of recording a track. Thank you for this
@JakeReedmusic
@JakeReedmusic 2 жыл бұрын
Totally! But, a couple things to add to your point: jazz is such an improvisatory music, all of the good stuff usually happens in the first couple of takes. We're playing rock music that is all part based, so it's more about finding the best part for the song that works with all of the other parts going on, which is why it sometimes takes more time and takes! ALSO, check out all of the newly released Miles Smiles stuff from a few years ago. It's mind blowing to hear every take of "Freedom Jazz Dance" and how much it evolves over ten or so takes! Thanks for watching. Glad you dig it!

i obviously love sean and his playing but as bass player and recording engineer, i have to say-the höfner was actually never used in the studio by the beatles. that "höfner sound" alsways was a rickenbacker amped up mostly through a bassman und mic'ed with a c12 in omni or figure 8, no close micing and crushed with the altec or sometimes the fairchild.

Are the guitar or keyboard parts you get typically scratch tracks? Curious if the groove direction you end up taking inspires the artist to re-record the melody instruments. 🤔

You can see the difference between someone who has played bass as their principle instrument for a lifetime over a guitarist who has learned to play bass, because almost no guitarist would have that discipline to play lines that simple lol, always make me think of this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHfYpXhmirWtrKs

@followingnazarene 10 ай бұрын
Not in the pocket at all. This line needs more ‚snap‘. In order to achieve this the snare might be closer and the kick accentuated. The bass might be played behind the beat. Sean isn‘t as great in playing behind as others.
