Madshepherd They recorded on the 12th of July. Julia was in the accident on the 15th. It bothered me how they messed up events in this movie. Also, George should be present for the recording, but was not in the movie. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie I enjoyed, but some of the history is off/bothersome. Cynthia should've been in this film, she played a big part in John's life during this time in his life. She was there for him when his mum died, she comforted him and really cushioned his blows. I hate that she's forgotten in the history of John Lennon. "We used to take the mickey out of her, but John always said he fancied her. He called her Miss Prim. He was certainly always attracted to her from the first time he saw her in the canteen."- Thelma pickles "I hate the word, but posh best describes John's first impressions of Cynthia. He was clearly attracted to her but hid that behind a regular barrage of bad jokes about her. She was the most important person to him for a long time but John did not want to look weak to his peers, to be soppy over a girl." -Pauline Sutcliffe "One day, not long after we had first met Cyn, I was at Mendips with John and he told me that Cyn was coming from town on the bus. I was twelve then and I was looking forward to seeing her again, wondering what arty, studenty clothes she would be wearing. Mendips is right on the main road, which meant that you could see the bus stop if you looked through the upstairs windows, which is why John ran up and down the stairs to his bedroom whenever he thought he heard a bus engine. You could hear whether or not the bus stopped to let passengers on or off. When the bus did indeed deposit Cynthia on the pavement, John shouted ‘Yes!’ and then flung himself downstairs to watch for her coming through the gate. Then he sauntered through the kitchen, as if he didn’t even know she was coming and he was bumping into her in his own garden by sheer good luck! I couldn’t believe his cool. I loved it! Cynthia was dressed in black from head to toe, just like John. A couple of art students, in love and looking like art students…in love. It was tangible." -Julia Baird (John's sister)
@moistmike4150 Жыл бұрын
Loved your take on Cynthia. For a time, she was a stabilizing force in John's life. The thing about John Lennon is that, after a childhood of pain where his father abandoned him and his mother was more a fun, "free-spirit" than mother; it left him harboring a deep insecurity. And from that childhood of insecurity he began to act "The Tough". E.g., "No one can touch me - No one can hurt me." It was all an act - and an exhausting one at that. I believe he really did love Cynthia, but she couldn't fill the void in his shadow self left by his dysfunctional mother and father, and so, he "acted out". Fortuitously - and tragically - music/show-biz is perfect for people who live to "act out" and for years he stepped fully into his Role as Beatle John. Decades later it looked as if he'd finally figured-it-out, but at that moment, he was taken. RIP John Lennon.

I think your comment is off the charts great! Thank you for sharing that. Your interest in the subject and insight blew me away. I have been a Beatles SUPERFAN since 1995 and have read everything I could on them and seen everything I could. I say “could” because that “ability” caveat limited the overall amount, but not much. Anyway, it NEVER occurred to me that Cynthia was not included here. That is a staggering omission, on the part of the Producers/Director(s). etc. Once again, thank you for including those quotes, to illustrate your point and also add context to your sentiments. I would love to know sources for those and ANY other comments/interviews by people associated with the Beatles from that time period, including the ones cited in your comment. Peace

I'm also babyfaced myself and not the most eyefucked guy in any given room. Then again, it can't be a culture thing, because there's Aaron right next to Thomas, and he makes me feel a little unsure about what I'm really into. Jk, but the guy looks a billon bucks. I haven't seen this movie, but I have to say this is some very good work by the actors. It's quite a moving scene for me; I lost my mother, who I loved dearly, around the same age as they did. She had great taste in music and loved The Beatles above all. It was The Beatles who, in the wake of my mother's loss, inspired me to take up guitar and bass. I was completely shattered, but as the sounds coming out of that first rinky-dink practice amp began to sound like music, I gradually started coming back to life. So I can relate a bit to John and Paul in that regard, and will always be grateful to them for their awesome music, which helped light the way out of the darkest place I've been.

She bought me a guitar cherry red acoustic for my birthday she took me to choose one and said no you need that one. I have never changed the guitar to this day and I love it. I can play lightly but, this above is so many geniuses in one space oh to be that gifted would be amazing. i write I sing yet, I do not have the courage to put my songs on here.My mother's wish was for me to release them and sing but, sadly I am just too shy when it comes to public.

The change of the guitar pattern here at 1:56 is very close to the riff of Nowhere Man, a song from Rubber soul. Hell of a movie, amazing performances, Mr. Johnson was spectacular portraying the young troubled and confused John Lennon. I enjoyed this movie immensely. This kid can act!!!!

Música fantástica. John, Paul e George.

I absolutely love this movie. It IS moving AND powerful and sad...but in a beautiful way. Life's funny that way, and John Lennon was tragically taken from us far to early. This movie inspires me to live my life to the fullest.

OK, this sounds great, great version, granted, but there are SEVERAL chronological inaccuracies: 1) Julia Lennon died AFTER the recording of the 1958 demo disc that included this song, not BEFORE. 2) The backing "aaaaaaa"s where not sung by George, but clearly by Paul. George sang the low harmonies 99,9% of the time. 3) That Guitar wasn't in John's Hands until 1960. TWO YEARS after this recording session. 4) John Lennon didn't look nearly as good as that kid nor did he have so many sexy moves...
@Fermichelvis8 жыл бұрын
+Juan Ignacio Vitale I agree with the first three ;) Having 'George' sing the 'aaaa' always bothered me because it's clearly Paul
@moravianmargrave65098 жыл бұрын
Yeah. She died 3 days after! Muhuhuhahahahah
@mikeybagels41707 жыл бұрын
Also, the song was written by Paul and George helped with the guitar parts, but John liked to be the center of attention so he forced them to let him sing lead.
@SoFarSoGoodSoWhat147 жыл бұрын
No the ahhs are clearly George, you can hear his voice come through really strong there, the mistake is that Paul clearly sings the middle eight ("I looove you" etc), not John
@jaymurphy51026 жыл бұрын
Sorry just to point out that the aaaa bit was actually sung by George and Paul sung a long side as well
