From Rukungiri in the West to Namutumba in the East of the country, Solutions Now Africa reporter Dan Ayebare immersively tells a story of the Uganda Health Access and Affordability challenge and the insurance model being used by non-government players to make it easy for some Ugandan communities.
By press time, the draft bill on national health insurance had been finalised, but it is still a long journey as analysts still point to some loopholes. The discussions about national health insurance date back to the 1980s but nothing ever materialises.
It should be remembered that Uganda has some of the highest out of pocket costs with 38% percent of Uganda’s health expenditure paid by individuals.
