It was sad that the chance for true Philippine independence was diminished further when Luna was betrayed by his own countrymen. This movie isn't really focused on portraying the Americans as much of an imperialistic superpower ready to occupy former Spanish-held territories. Rather a movie about the problems that the Philippine revolutionaries were experiencing from the inside. There was always constant argument within the ranks and superiors were deciding whether to cooperate with their new occupiers and possibly see another unequal treatment by a higher superpower or resist it entirely. It certainly didn't help when many of the revolutionaries were so unmotivated to fight for their country and would rather focus on childish/selfish endeavors. Which just created an easier job for the Americans to take Luzon more swiftly than the bloody guerilla battle that Luna had originally envisioned.
@desgner_droz87162 жыл бұрын
That's true, unfortunately the corruption and ineptitude continues to this day. The Hong Kong bus hostage crisis, Fallen 44, Jabidah massacre, South China Sea issue etc. This movie although a bit overdramatic in some scenes explained why it ended up the way that it is now, the sick man of Asia.
@Borderose2 жыл бұрын
That was how the Spanish got a hold of Luzon to begin. You don't conquer and hold for 300 years without local support. The courts of the various chiefdoms and rajahnates in Luzon saw great advantage in allying themselves with Spain. Some were already used to giving tribute to other states like Imperial China: switching to a new sovereign was fairly easy.

Yes this is true it's because people always pick sides at those times, it's always down to these: the government of the invading country, freedom fighters, and people who are willing to do anything for money. That was always the situation back then when the Philippines was still a colony of Spain and The U.S.A. This movie is called "Heneral Luna ( General Luna)". This is the biographical movie of General Antonio Luna which centered on the heights of the Filipino-American War. Many people say that he is a hard-headed person and mentally ill General but the fact is that he's only rude to his companions is that because most of the other soldiers are loyal only to their generals, not to their own country. He even stated that " It is difficult to unite a country that was scattered". The War is seemingly easy to win if the generals in every province were coordinating, unified, and moving as one. But some generals are self-centered and some don't want to help their fellow general in defense, that's why many cities and areas were occupied by the Americans to the Point the President of that time, Emilio Aguinaldo cowardly fleed alongside with his soldiers. If they only listen to General Luna's war plan where they will create a fortress in Mountain regions and perform guerilla attacks to bleed the Americans not only by blood but also by money. The Americans were laughing at the Filipinos at that time and even said " You just killed the only General you had". For me, I think my country just deserves to be defeated in this war, so they can learn about the mistakes, greed, and stupid actions they did in that time. I hope you learned something about this.🙂😀

This is not a biographical movie but a fiction story based on real history. And no, Aguinaldo is not cowardly. This is backed up by evidence when Luna resigned, Aguinaldo immediately goes to the frontline and win a battle unlike what Luna thought that he would grovel in front of him to come back. It was part of their plan to keep Aguinaldo in the back. It was part of the war plan Luna. And no again. If they followed Luna's plan for earlier guerilla. They would have lost all of their capabilities to fight and end the war early. Remember that guerilla always takes a long time, unlike a proper one. They cannot also do their plan in cordillera as creating a fort there was logistically impossible considering what Luna wanted which is the earlier guerilla. Losing the cities equals losing most of the money that funds the war. The war plan luna which they accepted was the better one which is to make it a logistical nightmare for the Americans as the war continue. Sadly, the Americans were far more glad to spend money on their first-priced colony so they continued fighting.

The US and Soviet Union equally screwed with Korea dividing it. MacArthur ordered the hit on democratic independence leaders leaving only Lee Seungman as the only tyrant to lead the South. Same happened in the North, Stalin and Peng Dehuai ordered the hit on progressive communist leaders like Park Honyong and Kim Kyushik leaving only Kim Il-Sung as puppet. He's an interesting figure, for me. He's a nobody, whom has no military experience in the field, but was self-educated in the ways of the Military (guerilla warfare, field fortifications, and organization) thanks to a certain Gerard Leman. And was TECHNICALLY, leading and organized the proper Armed Forces of the Philippines, just in time of the PH-US war (or Filipino Insurgency, if you're a meddling yankee) This film really shows you the difference between knowledge and experience. Unfortunately, this got him into hot water. Due to his concern into protecting the sovereignty, he had to put up a fiery and arrogant persona, in order to combat insubordination. And since he technically was in charge of the army, he was feared to be planning a coup, and set up a dictatorship, (as seen in the Southern American wars of Independence) which I couldn't tell if it's true or not. And this culminated in his assassination in 1899, by Janolino, and elements of the Kawit Battalion (the soldiers in red pants). Then this film came, and Arcilia gave life to the fiery life of Luna... This bursted my interest in this film, and has since loved Philippine War films. This, Goyo, Amigo, Bonfacio: Ang Unang Presidente, and El Presidente... these will stick to me. Edit: Please read the whole comment before you go to the replies section.

Aguinaldo is the best example of politicians now a days . Killed bonifacio -aguinaldo command his men to kill bonifacio worried about his position Luna-killed while he was defending bonifacio's will to have independent republic Goyo- killed in action to defending the traitor .😅 Aguinaldo proclaimed as 1st president of the republic. 🤔🤔 You think he was the first president ? How about bonifacio as a "SUPREMO"?
@renatoagreda46872 жыл бұрын
Agree
@NishiMiyamura2 жыл бұрын
Actually no it's because how corrupt the politicians were in the cabinet aguinaldo like Pedro Paterno an ex Spanish cabinet member and Felipe buencamino a pro American Aguinaldo didn't know that he was chosen representative and candidate for President and as well as was very sure bonifacio would win forgot to mention that there were 3 people running for president in the tejeros convention Plus again aguinaldo even tried to talk to bonifacio to reunite and take his position in the revolutionary government cause Bonifacio got mad after losing and said the votes are null and even threatened to burn down a village(aka the indang incident)bc he didn't get what he wanted. So aguinaldo won as president however he lacks political ideals that's why he's corrupt but however he's a good general who had 9 wins basically this film is literally nothing else but propaganda and some scenes are innacurate

Salute to General Antonio Luna, who bravely fought against foreign invaders, the Americans. Sadly, General Antonio Luna died in the hands of his countrymen. It’s a shame how dirty the politics in the Philippines were. This happened because we had a president who prioritize his own interests over the interest of the country. By the way, General Antonio Luna is not the only hero who died that is associated with then President Emilio Aguinaldo. It is also under Aguinaldo’s watch when he allegedly ordered the execution of the father of the katipunan, The Supremo, Andres Bonifacio. Both Luna and Bonifacio died in the hands of their countrymen under the same incompetent president.
@Nelson34910 ай бұрын
Aguinaldo didn't not order th execution of Bonifacio it was consejo de guerra who made an decision and aguinaldo didn't not want it and just want the bonifacio to get exiled but if it was happend there's a possibility that he would scape and teamming to spanyard and he was captured for treason he literally burn the billing in indang and betr the second supremo of katipunan and tried to killed tirona,so who's the real traitor now
