One of the most greatest unbiased thing about this film is how Goyo's death was depicted. In the Philippines we often have statues or narratives that would depict our heroes dying "heroically" like Jose Rizal keeping his composure during his execution and not crying or panicking like common folk. Goyo has a statue that immortalizes him riding a horse into battle fighting gallantly to the bitter end, the reality was just more unceremonious, he just died from one bullet to the head without having the chance of saying anything else.

Andres Bonifacio, General Antonio Luna and Gregorio Del Pilar are the bravest Philippine heroes. And yet they all got wasted by Aguinaldo, with him executing both Bonifacio and Luna with questionable validation, while leaving Del Pilar to die in Tirad Pass while he escaped. The snake then proceeded to live until 1972. I'm baffled whenever people call him a hero considering how many Philippine heroes' blood was on his hands

not to mention, (from what i read somewhere, i forgot where) Aguinaldo was offered money by the Spanish, to be paid in 3 installments. the condition was that Aguinaldo be exiled in Singapore (or Hongkong) and that the people under him lay down their guns. Aguinaldo told the rebels to surrender or no longer do violence, and they were probably like "wait what??" Not sure if they were all but the rebels still kept their resistance against the spanish pips. after arriving in his exile, he was double crossed by the spanish gov by only paying him 1 installment, 2 & 3 were history. i bet he was pissed. Aguinaldo wishes to go back to ph and take control again of his pips. so to do that, he made a deal with the americans. it was an informal deal, there were two diff accounts of that deal, and one of them was that the americans approached aguinaldo first to make a deal with the americans, wherein the us will provide aid for aguinaldo and ph against spain, help with the ph independence and all sugary flipflops. like an idiot, he was fooled again. behind his back, the us made a negotiation with spain to buy ph. and spain was like, "these mofos are getting hard to handle. you take this shit out of our hands but lets make it seems like you bought it from us. to save face. but seriously, pay us." he came back and went to his fellow rebels. after some time, a dilemma occurred with the topic of who will lead now that spain leaves? as a corrupt bastard, he killed his competition (bonifacio) and took up the seat of leader. even before bonifacio's death, the kkk thinks aguinaldo as a f'ckn traitor and a double crosser. the next shit was that the us provide ph independence if it was lead by an us gov. aguinaldo did not like that, just as much as his pips, except for some traitors within his ranks. hence the ph-us war. like a dumbass, he listened to some of his pips (traitors) in his ranks and killed his fiercest/strict-ph-loving general, baiting him for a meet up then ambush the poor f*ckr. he lost bonifacio/kkk and his fierce general, then went downhill from there. Goyo and many others sacrificed their lives for the remaining ph pips & their lil govrnment, meanwhile Aguinaldo got captured, took u.s. side and stayed comfy at ph til old age, while the rest who didnt take the us side got exiled. in total, he was an ass and a corrupt schmuck, just like some of the politicians in ph. (if any of the things i said were false or need correction, just point it out, id appreciate it more coz i know i lack more ph history) edit1: this is embarrassing, i had the order wrong. first was the case who will lead kkk/government, power struggle and stuff, bonifacio executed, half of kkk left. second was the pact between aguinaldo and spain, regarding money and exile, done in biak na bato bulacan. sh*t i feel embarrass, thats the province where i live.

@@APersonOnKZbinX i think so. i read somewhere that kkk or boni accuses aguinaldo of being in cahoots with spanish or friars. but then again, it was probably becoz of power struggle since kkk was split in 2, boni side vs aguinaldo side. for me both did dick moves. aguinaldo appointed himself leader with only half of kkk approved, and bonifacio was like "fuck that shit, thats null and void" and his half of kkk agreed. instead of being the bigger man since his opponent was a dick and that they seriously need to stick together to stand up against the spaniards, he left cavite and did his own thing. but yeah, aguinaldo was a bigger douche. dirty election and execution of bonifacio. this literally lead the revolution go sideways coz for the rebels, bonifacio was their beacon, idol. after his death, moral went down and affected the aid from neighboring province. This is an amazing film. I only watched this for the battle scenes. But after watching the whole film, I was further invested in Gregorio Del Pilar, since I liked characters whom are not too evil nor too moral. And apparently, Goyo is the perfect character for the modern Filipino dilemma. He was appointed in such high ranks that he couldn't manage, and we even question his choices (drinking/swimming before commanding, the fact that he supports Aguinaldo more than the cause). This, Heneral Luna, and Amigo are three of my favorite war films in the Philippines
@drejade7119
@drejade7119 2 жыл бұрын
He couldn't manage? That's where you are wrong. Aguinaldo gave him an order to liberate Bulacan and Caloocan and he was able to do it pretty much successfully. He held off the American attacks when Luna left the front lines to punish Mascardo and even won a battle against the Americans in Bulacan. One of his assault while he was still not a general was even called "one of the finest assault" of the first phase of the revolution. And even at Tirad pass. It was a defence with 1/5 ratio difference in numbers and we're still able to defend it for so much time. I don't think the statement "he was appointed in such high rank that he couldn't manage" apply to him. For me, this is is more applicable to Gen. Luna although I respect him for his contributions.
@marcusguanio1290
@marcusguanio1290 2 жыл бұрын
@@drejade7119 It could. He did a lot of contributions to the cause, but simply promoting him to the rank of Brigadier General is too quick. I'll give you the point for the "not qualified" part, and the thing about Luna. Shit, I learned more stuff! Thanks And yeah, peace bro.

General Luna and Sumpremo Bonifacio were great and honorable Heroes along with those unnamed lower ranked generals and soldiers. General Luna was able to resist the Americans despite lacking in firepower and much advanced weapon while Bonifacio along with his KKK compatriots and volunteers was able to defeat the Spaniards. Too bad we had Emilio Aguinaldo who thinks he is a king and cared more of his power and much more afraid to lose it.
@yahallo5343
@yahallo5343 2 жыл бұрын
@damon gant clearly you know nothing about Philippine's history. This isn't about Aguinaldo surrendering. Aguinaldo executed Bonifacio which made the Katipunans angry. He ordered his men to assassinate Luna which lowers the moral of the Filipinos under him. I'm sure you know about the Luna sharpshooters. They where elite troops especially chosen by Luna. They would've stand a chance if Luna was still alive. Troops where much more disciplined and organized under Luna. Aguinaldo did help in executing the revolution but he became attached to his seat and is hungry for power rather than thinking what is best for the Philippines. He even denied the plan to build a fortress which would've helped in resisting the Americans. If he doesn't have a choice then he should've surrendered in the first place rather than escaping which cost the life of those who defended Tirad Pass just to let him escape and then surrender in the end which wasted the life of the Filipinos. I dont know why you're an Aguinaldo apologist but its a fact that Aguinaldo is a traitor.

@@Y.B.D.C Rizal was captured the Governor-General of the Philippines, not Antonio Luna. But let give you some historical knowledge, rather than believing the possibly revised textbooks you were given. Also, Antonio Luna and Rizal knew each other, since they have fought over a woman. Which then lead to Jose Rizal challenging Luna to a duel. The key thing about this story is, Luna was the one who apologised. Which makes no sense on why Luna would have captured, and executed Rizal. Another key thing is, Antonio Luna DID NOT join the Katipunan prior to the war against the Americans. It was only when 1898 when Aguinaldo appointed Luna to have Heneral position. The timelines do not add up. With Rizal being captured around the year 1896. With Luna being the general of the Philippines in 1898. "Heneral" Antonio Luna de San Pedro y Novicio Ancheta was, and is not responsible for the capture of Jose Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda in 1896.

An individual American who has married a Filipina comment on this series. Firstly- I loved the first movie of 'General Luna' overall and if I was there at his time would have followed him! This second movie- 'Goyo Pilar' better helped me put into perspective the Names of the streets of Manila's- Malotai area that I have been staying in on and off now for some 30 years. The names of- Rzial Park / Luna / Pilar/Delpilar/Mabini all these I had last noted when last in Manila back in 2018 as (Finally) your National Museum was finally open and there to see are sketches and pictures of these men. One thing is Good and another Not so good as I will next share with my ALL Filipino's: Rizal Park is your 'counterpart' tour US Washington DC Mall- there you will find many statues commemorating past US Presidents, battles & wars etc. In Rizal/Luneta Park - FREE MASONS have depicted THEMSELVES as The 'Liberators' and Protectors of The Philippines! We see this depicted throughout both of the movies above- but, which (Of course) the average Filipino has No idea about! Consider just my unintended observations around The Philippines/PI : I was married near Queson City and how to go to their Town Hall multiple times to sign various forms and paper-work. Now your President Queson was the one MacArthur brought back with him after saying, 'I shall return' and in the US Leyte Invasion MacArthur also brought back with him your President Queson. Why, well though the Goyo part of the movie shows the Americans winning- still many Filipino's were Not altogether Happy Campers with the US in control of- (Manila- 'The Pearl of Asia-....wayyyy back then!) Thereby MacArthur still needed a sizable force in secure PI (Under the table-over The Table- MacArthur too was A Free Mason!) When the Japanese 'kicked out' The Americans I believe only then did 98% of you Filipino's realize that the Americans were certainly Better then the Japanese! (But Not all- as like at the time of Gen. Luna- there still were powerful Filipino families 'willing to cooperate with The Japanese- to KEEP THEIR OWN Economic "privileges"!) Know this- by 1952 US Gen. MacArthur- Champion of The Pacific War- is "stropped" of his Command in Japan-Korea and forced to resign from the US Military by our then Pres. Harry Truman (Who was A Free Mason too!) What we see throughout Masonry- like any other Secret Society- Big Fish "eat lil fish"! But, and particularly in Masonry- what I see in it is- its members are Forced to choose A God- could be any god but they have to choose one! Here now you- the uninformed Public 'presumes' that what is written on the US $1- "In God we Trust". would be the God and Father of Jesus Christ! But, at the Highest levels of Masonry they ALL Choose The Devil- they have to its Not an option! (And yes- 'their fruit reveals this!) Back to Rizal;/Luneta Park- How many of you people know that it is a Barange in itself and- of course its Number is- 666!!! In Rizal Park your own monument to The Unknown Soldier is, 'of course' a type of copy' of our own and particularly our Washington Monument- which is 555' tall X 12" = 6660- inches! Indeed, our 'so called Founding Father's of America 70% were Masons!! Your National 'Flag' colors are Red/White & Blue as ALL ancient occult-secret societies know- go back to ancient Egypt- Osirus /white = Sun god / Isis blue = mother god & Horus red= Son of the Sun god and future 666 as this is what the Secret Societies re waiting for! Know this- the 'fruit' of ALL Secret Societies is Control- to be able to control their societies- rise up and become rich and all that goes with it- just as depicted in your two movies here! General Luna-athough being a Mason too knew this very well concerning the opposition he faced from his own fellow Landed- Rich Filipino's that didn't want to risk their own privileges and just assume bow to the Americans- Japanese and some day now maybe The Chinese!!!! Your- Iglesia Ni Kristos 'logo' is TOTALLY Masonic / The Vatican ultimately is Always behind ALL Secret Societies and your Presidents and ours too always are Satanists- you know X-Duterte is estimated to have killed about 26K Filipinos's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whats to be done- well obviuosly Everything is changing Fast ie. Piso = 45 to $1- and should go much higher. Yet its is (Mat. 24.6'signs' that are Now showing us all that it is The Time for the real Christ to Return and he is- hang tight he is coming- yeah!) HalleluYAH IN the American Embassy in Manila there is a portrait of your Filipino-American was of Independence- its depicts some American soldiers 'running for the guns'- but the Filipino's in the bushes that are chasing them with machete's will catch them first! I always marveled at that picture wayyy back then for I never knew what I do today! Stay FREE!

People should take into account that the Filipino Generals were not really professional trained soldiers but rather just normal colonial people - mayors, teachers, clerks, businessmen, lawyers, artists, scientist. For instance, Antonio Luna was a scientist at the Pasteur institute in Paris. Most of them had no formal experience in the military or trained in an academy unlike the Americans and Spaniards. Gregorio del Pilar was only 21 years old when he joined the revolution against Spain, he just finished his bachelors degree and was planning for a masters. He fought the Spaniards and won a number of battles. He died at 24 as a General in a sacrificial battle against the Americans. Think about that. From college graduate to General in less than 3 years, no formal military training. He is only 3 years older than Manuel Quezon.

@@DM-qj7eh To be an officer in a modern military, one needs to know how to read and write. You need to do logistics, keep records, read reports, receive and dispatch orders. You have to take into account information from newspapers, books, maps, schedules, letters, etc. We take that all for granted today since most of us are literate with at least high school education. A high estimate of the number of literate people in the Philippines at this time was 30%, maybe as much 10% had college education. For example, many of the Filipino Generals were teachers (professor in Spanish) which was a high position for a Filipino at that time relative to farmers, laborers, and servants.
