in the air, then under ground - Kraków, Poland + Wieliczka Salt Mine (Oct. 2023)

My central/eastern eurotrip starts off solo in the city of Kraków after a long day+ of travel.
After getting some sleep, I did a little local exploring and went on a guided tour of the Wieliczka Salt Mine (listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site). Almost everything down in the mine is carved from salt, from the crystals on the chandeliers to the floor!

I always wonder how tourists from the USA choose a hostel instead of a hotel or guesthouse, it is more convenient. Even though Poles earn much less, they would never choose a hostel. Poland is really cheap for tourists from the dollar or euro zone.😀

Cheaper or not, $$$ goes further in general when you choose the least expensive option! In addition to saving money, hostels also provide epic social connection opportunities, and many even have free or discounted tours.

@@martinkarnstein Sorry, but a poor person from America doesn't come to Poland. And hostels usually hire school trips, but they are a whole group and they don't need much. And I would never be afraid to go to a hostel alone. There is another Polish proverb; you can guess what it is, but I won't write it because maybe someone won't understand the allusion and will get offended.👍

I know the street where your hostel is located in krakow. I used to visit a dentist who has a practice just a little further on, along the same side of the street as you are. I must say that after such a long flight, I do not think I would have chosen a room with possibly four total strangers to have to share facilities with. Incidentally, you could also have taken the bus from the airport to Krakow bus station and saved yourself lots of money.

Ah I considered taking the bus but I thought the train would be easier. Better luck next time! 😂 People in hostels are never strangers for long...
