You really did justice to the haunting quality of this song, it always has a deep melancholy for me as, the first time I ever heard it, early in the morning on a cheap battery operated radio in tent on a camping trip to Bala in Wales in early 1981, hearing Phil Collins singing 'If you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand' just before police divers came to search for the body of my friend who had capsized in an ill-advised midnight excursion on his canoe.
