Back in the 1980s there was an elevator in one building (can't remember the name at the moment) at the UCLA campus that was slow enough that you see off your friends riding the elevator, walk to the opposite end of the hallway, go up to the next floor, then walk back to elevator to arrive *before* your friends in the elevator. At the opposite end of the scale were the elevators in Math Science building which accelerated down so quickly you'd swear your feet left the floor.
