North Carolina native Dr. Jesse Peel was a psychiatrist who was at ground zero of the AIDS epidemic when AIDS decimated the patients of his group medical practice in Atlanta, Georgia. Along with other newly minted civil rights activists, Dr. Peel helped found many of the AIDS service organizations that continue to serve the people of Atlanta and of Georgia today.
