Thank-you for the video. Unimaginable the loss, damage and perseverance, and compassion those affected have endured because of Hurricane Helene. The aftermath is horrific, I can't imagine the event unfolding under their eyes. I hope their home is restored.

Thank you for bringing these stories to light and allowing us to help those in need in North Carolina. I can't even imagine all the people that have been affected there in so many ways; some losing their very lives, some their homes, their transportation, their jobs, and so on. North Carolina has a long road of recovery for sure! Keep these stories coming!

I'm way down south of them, and we were all without power for 8 days or more. It was insane. Looked like a war zone you'd see in some WW1 movie, the area between the trenches just obliterated from all the bombing. The one thing that really saved my sanity was having Hurricane Lanterns. A more aptly named invention there never was, honestly. While everyone was scrambling to find batteries or whatever, I had light in the evenings and could read a book. It might seem like a trivial thing, and I certainly would have thought so before Helene came through. Everything "modern" was DOA for one reason or another, but my Old Tech worked perfectly. Axe instead of chainsaw. Feuerhand lanterns instead of battery-powered whizbangs. There was something very calming about knowing that I could handle the clean-up and didn't have to worry about finding supplies. I'm recommending to everyone that they donate a Feuerhand hurricane lantern to the relief effort. They are the last manufacturer in The West, and the quality is top shelf. If we can get them into the hands of more folks in NC and TN who are still hurting, I know it'll help. If nothing else, it makes the supply of batteries and propane stretch further.

Jesus, Mercy! I am not an expert. I hope nobody gets angry: building a new house could be cheaper?
@AppalachianeclecticАй бұрын
Cost of new construction is over 280$ per square foot right now. So not, it would not be cheaper at all!

Besides you couldn’t get a crew to build it anyway for 3 years, every one is busses fixing other problems

I know it's hard to give up ones home that they put their heart and soul into, but it may be time to let the bank have it (if mortgaged), pack up what you can, and start over somewhere else. We're talking no FEMA help, no personal loan to help, no contractors even available in that area, supplies and travel severely limited...$100k needed to bring a 100+ year old house back to just what it was, and not in perfect "like new" condition? I dunno...washing my hands of it would be an option on my plate unfortunately. They will be in my thoughts and prayers no matter what the future brings.
