Hands down Bowser's best role in any game. His comedy, cockiness and sheer heroics and badass prowess against the Dark Star. Remember how at the beginning of the game they didn't want to include Bowser in the meeting about the blorbs because even though he was willing to try and behave, they didn't think anything good could come from him? Well he sure proved everybody wrong in this fight.

Warning: clicking read more will blind you with a wall of text. You have been warned. Character wise, bowser is the best one ever in an rpg. Gameplay wise, even more so. As a final boss of many games, and a fucking beast of a dude, he’s his own party, and never has any teammates ever in the game. He has his minions, and Mario and Luigi are inside him, but outside he is a single character party, and it makes so much sense. Lets look at how the Bros operate. In superstar saga, bowsers inside story, and (to an extent) dream team, they rely pretty heavily on eachother. Luigi has high defense and hp, while mario has high pow, and other stats are evened out. Mario is a more aggressive character while luigi is more defensive. This suits them very well, mario goes down more often than luigi, but luigi is there to support mario with health items, plus when both bros are out, they can do bros moves, which are badass. Now compare that to bowser. At the start of the game, he’s essentially got the best of both bros: high defense and health (nearly double than that of mario) and a ton of power, probably the most out of any character in a m&l game. He has no party members to rely on for support, so he dishes damage like a 5 stat chef, and his high defense allows him to safely heal. Plus, his fire attack, which costs no sp (special points, used for special attacks like bros attacks), can also hit multiple enemies, one of the first attacks ever to do both. And bowser also has his special attacks, namely minion attacks, and boy these are neary overpowered. Tons of damage, almost all of them can hit multiple enemies, and they generally compliment his unique playstyle perfectly. Plus, since he is his own party member, he never has to use any revive items, which is why there arent any for bowser. If bowser goes down, no one is gonna stuff a drumstick in his mouth. But by far the best part is in conjunction with the bros. His inhale ability causes any enemies that are sucked to instead fight mario and luigi. While bowser’s turns stop counting, the bros take care of the enemies for him. And thats not even mentioning the dodge/counter system. Mario and luigi both have 2 main dodge types, plus a few bonus ones. One is jumping, the other is hammering, and jumping often means avoiding the attack, hammering could be seen as countering. Plus, as brothers, if Mario or Luigi go down, the bro that is still standing will actually pick them up so they aren’t hurt any more. Character wise sweet, but also means jumping now means you must time it earlier due to jumpsquat animatoon, and hammer is even slower to pull out and swing. Bowser, with no teamates, never suffers from this. Instead, he either punches or crouches. Punching acting similar to hammering, and crouching like jumping. Punching is much faster than hammering, and can be semi spammed. Crouching can be held down for several seconds, plus it usually automatically counters enemies that do attack by jumping. And even more so, there is a hidden counter checking how often bowser is hit by enemies. If that counter ever reaches a threshold, bowser enters the fury state. It can be cured with a refresh item like any negative statis effect, but fury is different. It reduces bowser’s defence, meaning dodging becomes even more essential, but bowser’s attack increases by a lot, to the point it could even be considered a strategy to intentionally take damage until fury, then use the high attack stats to demolish the enemy. Its a great way of incorporating a character flaw/trait into a game mechanism that is genuinely interesting and useful, plus fun. Bowser is the best unique party in the mario and luigi series. Baby bros essentially force the adults to keep them alive, which is limiting but with the addition of having 4 party members instead of 2, dream team with the dreamy luigi combining his hp and bp points with mario in addition to attack buffs, but mario is now a single party member, plus defense is the same for him, and paper mario, being a special character that is incredibly fragile but has some of the most powerful attacks in the series. Bowser has the best out of almost all these systems. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

He had already had amnesia and his body possessed TWICE before (Superstar saga and Partners in Time), had his own minions brainwashed (Bowser inside story), and even betrayed by the 3 guys he thought weren’t brainwashed (also Bowser inside story), not to mention tricked into thinking Chippy was a helpful ally when it was in fact Starlow (also also Bowser inside story). He’d been manipulated so much before, he finally realized it would repeat itself in dream team, so he betrayed Antasma instead so he could have the advantage. This continues when he also goes on to plot to betray Paper Bowser in Paper Jam. So honestly, it would make sense for bowser to do this, and Antasma still got to be a really cool penultimate boss as well as being in the gauntlet as Antasma x, not to mention having his own boss theme and unique mechanics (removing dreamy luigi buff is the big one here). So honestly, dream team nailed it.

One element that I love about Bowser in this game is that he isn’t trying to stop Fawful and the Dark Star to save the day or the world, it’s that if anyone is going to take over the Mushroom Kingdom or the whole world, it can ONLY be Bowser and his son with the crowns on their heads. Yeah, this was super out of context. Brawlbrsmts3x having to take down almost all of their Nintendo game music just really hurts the accessibility of a lot of the tracks. Also, where in that comment did I say I didn't like modern game soundtracks? I personally love pretty much all music gaming comes out with, especially Nintendo stuff (hence me missing the videos), and that includes tons of recent pieces. And the "HighqualityvideogameRIP" was in reference to Siivagunner, a channel that also uploads video game music rips, and when their channel got removed for copyright reasons a few years back. Siivagunner is more of a parody channel, refering to their uploads as "high quality video game rips" so in response to losing their channel, Siivagunner and many of their fans posted 'HighqualityvideogameRIP' everywhere on the internet as a play on words. (There's a lot more to that story but its complicated so you can look up the rest of you'd like)

I think this game is proof that bowser isn't not necessarily evil. He is a bad guy for sure and isn't exactly good, but that doesn't mean he is evil. Its such a common question: "if Mario and bowser hate eachother so much, why do they play tennis and bored games with him?". Well because bowser isn't evil. Sure he kidnaps peach, but he never hurts her, and hasn't really done anything inherently evil yet. Dark bowser literally tries to end the world and bowser stops him. This proves that bowser isn't evil. He cares about his home and the people in it. He's just a bit lonely

@@brownleaf_o1 it kind of is. Iirc the remake of BIS is considered worse than the og which is sad because a remake is supposed to be the exact opposite which is to be better than what it came from. Superstar Saga really was the only game that needed a remake anyways imo since it was on the gba. Og BIS was on the DS and since the 3ds had backwards compatibility with it, you could just play the og BIS. So even though you could just say that it sold poorly due to the 3ds being at the end of it's life, it could also be due to how poor the game was remade in general.

The theme of the internet in around 2008-2010. I find it a little funny that Yoko Shimomura is most known for her work on Kingdom Hearts, this is the song that she's most know for without most people even realizing it. Not just becuase it's good, but becuase it was fucking EVERYWHERE in the early internet. Crazy to see how much Yoko can do with just a DS soundfont. And then it got even crazier when she was able to use real intstruments in the future!

Looking back, I think I finally understand *why* this is most peoples’ favorite final boss theme in the series. Tracks like Adventure’s End and Final Battle (Paper Jam) are grand orchestral masterpieces, no question, but In The Final gives off this “different” energy, in an almost empowering sorta way. Yeah, I can imagine how playing in short sessions lengths and savors the experience. I played like 2-5 Hours a day to rush beating it in a week because I was doing a marathon. I didn't feel anything because it was basically just "Beat this and then move on to Dream Team"

This game is the GOAT. Getting to not only play as Bowser for the duration of the game, but having Bowser actually be the GOOD GUY who saves the day is crazy and unheard of in any mario game until this point, and the reason why I love this game the most out of any of the Mario and Luigi games. Lets hope Brothership can live up to the standards set by Alphadream ages ago.
