To be honest, I have tried fixie, and it was very interesting. Then I realized, that I need more distance between bike and curb (for my spinning cranks). I also went on 200km trip one day, with a lot of little up and downhills (very tough experience). Then I realized, that fixe is not helping me. I admire that people can find pleasure in that type of bike. In addition I don't quite understand the issue with front brake. I'm not trying to attack annyone, but I just can't get it. In tough situation it can save our ass. In another - we could just don't use it. What is the problem with having it? It could be helpful sometimes. Having the "pure" bars without any stuff is so important? Why?
@capkong009 жыл бұрын
1. looks ugly 2. damage your front wheel 3. street cred 4. balance 5. more dangerous to have one than not having one (if you hit the brakes on an emergency you'll flip, if u are good you can skid or hop out)
@wikrap19 жыл бұрын
+Yingcong Zhang 1 - Quite understand. pure look is something worth. (Sadly, as bike tourist I'm very far from that..) :D 2 - one front rim in city use gets about 20 000km or better - Affordable. 4 - balance of what? 5 - My last flip was a few years ago, when I intentionally tested what would happen if I push brakes as hard as I can :P In normal ride, even on an emergency I have full control of braking power. Both rim and disc brakes. I stil can "skid" with brakes, try to bypass obstacle, but additionally if there is no place to escape I could break. Brakes don't reduce possibilities.
@DrRatzFatz9 жыл бұрын
+Yingcong Zhang I can see some of your points. I ride fixed myself. But damage to the wheel by a brake you are only supposed to use in emergency situations? And a new rim does not cost that much actually. Fact is that it makes you stop faster, and I'd rather fit an ugly brake than running over a child or a Dog, cause no matter how well you ride, they'll eventually step infront of you some day. And seriously: If you can't use a front brake without flipping, then maybe riding bikes isn't for you an certainly not riding fixies.

You can have a fixed gear bike with brakes. What you can't have is gears or a coaster hub. @wachowski95254 жыл бұрын
@@vankallahan59 sure if you're a really good bike rider you can do that, but it takes awhile to build up to that, and I have heard personally that skidding is not as effective as pumping on two brakes. Personally two brakes can stop me in less than 20-30 ft if an emergency hit.
