I think now is an interesting time to get into overlanding like I am. I see guys like yourself who have gone through the trials of overlanding and are starting to see what really fits the bill. It really helps me decide on what are the real priorities of Overlanding (ie Roof top tent vs ground tent). Thanks for sharing.

That's the main issue I have with front, back bumpers and winch. We ordered our front bumper from Expedition One. And we are adding a synthetic Winch to reduce the weight. We are looking for the lightest rock sliders but with great quality materials. C4 makes a light front bumper.

I've been thinking a lot as well about the weight I'm adding and being conscious of it in my plans. I have the Lopro bumper from c4 going on the front and I think that'll be it.

J - Don't do it. Having watched all of your videos, you'd regret it like I did. Only do it if you're looking to add interesting content to your channel LOL

I love your videos, but I think you need a different rig more suited to your style of touring. I can see you making great content with a Jeep Renegade for example.

Good information. We're leaning towards light-weight with our new 4R build too. Your channel is well worth a subscribe, great work.

I think it was a smart choice to go back to the stock front bumper. In my opinion, if a after market front bumper is needed it should be a minimalist front bumper, or an aluminum front bumper. For what we do, we don"t need huge heavy tankasaurus bumpers just something that can mount a winch, and take the occasional bump here and there.

Have you guys looked into CBI's aluminum front bumper? It keeps some of the stock look. which I do love.

Tauntaun TRD I'm not the biggest fan of it to be honest...i saw it at expo and unless you are looking at it strait on the cuts for the gills don't appear to line up.

Overlanding USA Thanks good to know I would hate to lose her good looks.

As much as I disagree with ditching the front bumper, you really don't need it for it for overlanding. I do more rock crawling than overlanding so it makes more sense for me to be fully armored compared to someone who's just wanting to explore the back country. That being said, I would try and get the winch back on the front of the 4Runner. It's just one of those pieces of equipment that should be missing from anyone's build. Even if you use the Relentless Stingray bumper, it better then not having a winch.

I have a Shrockworks steel front bumper and Warn winch. I'm thinking doing the exact same thing. I am finding I don't need it or the winch for my typical use.

Love the videos! Separate from the bumper, I am interested in the rhino rack backbone system... what are your thoughts? Do you recommend it?
@Ruston_smith7 жыл бұрын
fallen459 so this is my 3rd different system and my 4th rack overall. Hands down the best. It is super light and crazy strong. I have had something like 400 lbs of people standing on it at any point in time. And that isn’t distributing the weight like a tent would. Super impressed. Also 0 wind noise.

Overlanding USA that is great to hear! I’ve spent months looking at different racks and I keep coming back to this one. What size platform are you running, 84” or 76”?
@Ruston_smith7 жыл бұрын
I got the 76.

I see your light bar behind your grill, how much light do you think you're losing by mounting it behind the 4R grill vs. in front / unobstructed?
