@@melglenn6556 Yes! And that's why Aretha's voice is so powerful, and never in a by-the-book vocalist way. J-Hudson is a vocalist, Aretha is SO MUCH MORE, when Aretha's record is on the world becomes quiet and you are just completely dominated by her singing, like the ocean is in your ears. She always had her sisters and the backup singers sang like TIDAL WAVES, and her voice surfing on top of these waves, completely spontaneous like a dolphin (haha), playing with these notes and phrasings and it's a wonder! I loved Aretha, Erma and Carolyn. This is a beautiful piece to have. I believe the sisters didn’t get the credit they deserved. But, let’s just face it - Aretha was and still is “iconic”. Only she would say her performance wasn’t to her standard. But, guess what? It worked. Rest In Peace, Ladies.

The Queen may have had to quit school early in life to pursue her career, but I'll tell u what, she was INDEED a TRUE, NATURAL GENIUS, NOT JUST IN THE OBVIOUS PLACE, MUSIC, WHERE WE KNOW SHE TAUGHT HERSELF TO PLAY PIANO BY EAR, AS A SMALL CHILD. In addition to that, she was also a VERY WELL READ & CULTURED WOMAN. What I admire MOST is how EXTREMELY ELOQUENT & INTELLIGIBLY ARTICULATE SHE IS & I'M TALKING SO EXTREMELY WELL SPOKEN, that she'll make the average Joe-Schmo do a doubletake!!!!! Total & complete CLASS ACT she was, all the way to the day she was reunited w/both of her beloved parents & ALL of her beloved siblings & good friends who'd traversed to the other side b4 her, as so, so many had. WE LOVE YOU ETERNALLY RE-RE💯!!!

Sometimes I play this song over and over about 100 times in one night.It's just mind boggling to hear this masterpiece without it disassembling your soul. Let me pull myself back together. Aretha got me in tears.

Both of Aretha Franklin's sisters, Carolyn and Erma, had great talent but unfortunately were always in her shadow! Thank you for posting this!

Gone but will never be forgotten, rest on Franklin sisters. Aretha you left a legacy for generations to come, and for those of us who remain that have followed you down through the years we'll see you on the other side one day, if God say the same.

When I first heard this song I was a teenager at a bowling alley and they were playing it. But when one of those background singers hit that high note (Woohoo) it just echoed through the whole building....oh my goodness it sounded so beautiful!! My favorite song.

That was Whitney Houston's mother, Cissy, who hit that note.

A pair of geniuses at work!!! To have the tallent to clap out a beat and to discribe to someone what you want it to sound like... then for her sister to know and have the talent to put cords to that..... its incredible, those ladies had more talent in there little fingets than most artests have altogether..... outstanding!

I like Ms. Carolyn's version of this song. But, I am so happy the Queen did her version of this song...plus, Mrs. Houston's hauntingly beautiful soprano vocals in the background made this song legendary.

No other voice like hers. If she only knew what that smoke was going to do to her voice back then. Rest in peace Miss Franklin xxx

You are so right. I lost two sisters to Cancer because they smoked cigarettes even while receiving cancer treatment. They said they just couldn't stop smoking. RIP
@ManifestedSonofTheMostHigh233 жыл бұрын
I say that all the time. Back then they did not have a working understanding of what cigarette smoke does to the voice and how he can set you up later four different types of cancers in various places in the body. A music voice professional was saying it takes about 15 to 20 years or so before cigarette smoke it begins to damage the voice to where you can hear it. Her voice got lower and lower over the years in her range became lower and widest of her voice began to constrict. Regardless of all of that Aretha kept the anointing on her voice till the end. That's why no matter what state she was in when she sang everybody else in the audience that had a pulse could feel it. It was absolutely unbelievable how much of the Spirit of God was on her voice. God bless the soul of the queen!

She had no rivals, her voice had a celestial beauty that has never been matched and probably never will, it rang out with suck a sweet beautiful tone.

@Lee Irby exactly, what are they talking about? There was never any noticeable damage or difference in Arethas voice, until the end. Now Whitney... Her voice did suffer and she acknowledged that.
