I dont know you Jeff, I've never been to your school or taken the online classes, but hell do you have an admirer in me. Your philosophy about art and living as an artist is one to really pay attention to. Lucky all the artists that attend your school and get to experience your lectures face to face. I'm a cg artist in LA and i have nothing but respect for all the traditional artists like yourself. So i cant wait for your next video man. Lastly, I dont know if he already has one, but your dad needs to write a book were he can put on paper all the great stories and philosophies he has gathered through out his whole life as an artist. You two are rock stars on my sketchbook.

It's a real blessing to have parents that would allow you to forego a "real university" to attend a non-degree institution so you could pursue YOUR passion. Kudos Mr. and Mrs. Watts

Brilliant! It's so good to hear this kind of conversation, which non-artists wouldn't understand or appreciate. Your doing a great service to all begginner, intermediar and advanced artists. Thanks!

Man, Jeff had great family support. I guess that's part of the reason why he's on good terms with his dad. And he worked hard, but his family was there for him. The people who shared a surname with me just said "Fuck him, he's no good" whenever I was in trouble and ran off. Then when I sorted things out they'll come back and give unsolicited dumb advice to try to lord it over me.

Jeff where can we find these works that you talk about here? You mentioned you worked on army of darkness? You made heavy metal cover art? That all sounds awesome and I'd love to see more of that, but I couldn't find that on your website. Is there anywhere you have that up for the public to see?

WOW that was very inspiring, Jeff. Thanks very, very much for what you are doing. I love what you commented on spirituality; I think after all is gone, that's the only thing you get to keep and take with you, beautiful - and listening to you has made me appreciate even more your online atelier and I hope to be joining your physical atelier at some point. I get it has been tough to produce this amazing art school but... THANK YOU. I'm one of the online students and just beginning the journey so I really hope you stay present for as long as you are on earth and at the same, I’d love to see your next face as an artist; I really appreciate what you mentioned on Mastery and that now you are on your “training” as a Master and so, well done, Jeff. Great interview, Robert - many thanks to you both and all the best from the Isle of Man.

Don't despair, if you fight for the time to try it you will be amazed at your progress. I started drawing at age four but at 27 I am just now starting a real art career. Most people (like myself) who do start young don't really get much of a head start because we are told that art is "just a hobby." Or get "real job." There are many successful artists who do amazing work who don't really start until middle aged or later due to life obligations.

I'm 35. I used to draw all the time as a kid, then in my 20's life took over and I didn't draw much for a decade. As C.S. Lewis said, "you are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." You just need to practice every day. Make it a habit that you will draw every day.

Do not despair! You can still be a professional artist. Make sure you align your priorities and are ready for changes in your life that will be tough. My life is similar, and I've drawn all my life. But life catches up on you and you realize you're older and reality sets in. I'm learning now that I need to focus on what I love as well as keeping my foundations in art strong everyday. If you miss a day, keep going. You can only lose your skills if you stop. So don't stop and create, study everyday. Surround yourself with inspiring things. Movies, art, games, people, life. If you have nothing to pour into your art, you will not have anything to create. Life a rich life and fill it with joy. If there is no joy, you will be depressed and will not be able to draw. Wake up and be optimistic about your day and abilities. You almost have to have a blind faith that you will get better and ignore how bad you may think you are. Just being persistent and consistent on the long marathon. There is no finish line, yet there is a plateau you may reach. Do not lose hope. Keep on the good fight and you will start loving it everyday!
