With how serious Brent is when he talks about this album, it really shows how much it meant to him I think.

Austin Bice especially after his interviews for EOS... it seems like he really didn’t give one single fuck about it. Seemed like he just cared about the Cold Dark Place release.

Lion Mane i think theres a method to his madness. He just hates how even when he acts sane he gets painted as a wildman, he has no real say in how hes percieved so he just dicks around when he doesn't feel like hes taken seriously. Like why waste energy on people who wont listen.

@@SuperYertleTurtle Blood Mountain is awesome, just like Leviathan is epic, but Crack The Skye is like the epitome of Mastodon. I really like seeing Bill work out the Crack the Skye riff, fucking around, messing up a little. We all do it, and we have all heard the album and the live performances(the amazing finished product). This album literally brings me back to the best two years of My life. 2008 and 2009 were hands down the greatest!! Hell, I almost even died in a horrific car wreck while this album was playing. I came to with the sounds if Divinations being the first sign of still being alive after the car flipped 8 times. Upside down and covered in gas, this album woke me up and I remember crawling out of the vehicle and pulling out my friend who was still unconscious! This album is so heavy for me and is still My favorite record ever created! Yet, almost 10 years later, they released "Emperor of Sand", which is a close second as far as my favorite records by them. Also, I feel that this new record EOS is as close to Crack The Skye as they have come! I Love You Guys and I hope You all continue to make amazing music for atleast another 10 years!! Rock On!!! 🤘😎🤘❤

People that bitch and complain about "the new" Mastodon should watch and listen to the things Brent says in this video!
@tylerjacobson80127 жыл бұрын
BestefarSmite there's a strong difference in progression and watering down your sound and making more catchy music that seems to be made just for more radio play. Crack the skye is obviously not watered down at all. That's prog dynamite. But hunter and omrts have songs like curl of the burl or motherload that feel like they were wrote by a completely different band. It's all preference obviously. I tend to like mastodon music that made me love mastodon. The prog heavy metal sludge rockabilly stuff that just gets my dick as hard as a Harley exhaust pipe.

How does the 9-string work tuning-wise?
@boynamedlen10 жыл бұрын
jaime Peck Doesn't look like a typical 9-string though, neck seems 6-string wide. I thought it was like a 12-string but maybe only 3 double strings or something.
@boynamedlen10 жыл бұрын
Lennart N Just looked it up, the treble strings are doubled like on a 12-string. I guess you could tune them any way you want so I don't know how Bill's is tuned.
@RobbL569 жыл бұрын
Lennart N Everything they do is in D standard (DGCFAD, one full step below E). Hence, the nine-string is tuned DGCFFAADD, with the F, A, and D strings doubled in octaves.

Yes. Its like half and half it is made by firstact. the guitar has the standard bottom strings but the top strings are doubled like a 12 string to give the effect of a 12 string but with the bottom end of a 6 string i think its a brilliant idea. the band high on fire uses that guitar also and matt pike thier guitarist tunes it so whenever he does slow leads it is harmonized i personally think it is an awesome concept

This is hard to explain but I will try. When I first heard Crack I was unsure of where it was going and what was going on with it - unfortunately it kind of took a backseat in my cd player. Then, I saw them live in Philly when they played the entire album and it all came together for me - I heard the album differently. Since then, it never left my rotation and, for me, considered an EPIC. I hear it differently every spin. Then, when I heard the instrumental, forget about it.....beauty.
