‘We’ve been touring so many years. It was time to do something new, something exciting. This felt like the perfect time to do it.’
Following the release of ÁTTA, their first album in a decade, Sigur Rós launched a limited run of orchestral concerts with London Contemporary Orchestra - beginning as part of Christine and the Queens’ Meltdown Festival 2023.
In this exclusive look behind the scenes during rehearsals at Maida Vale Studios, we get the opportunity to see the band’s preparations for this first live performance of the collaboration and hear more from bassist Georg Hólm and LCO’s conductor Robert Ames about what this partnership means to the artists.
Drawing on their 25-year catalogue and new album ÁTTA, Sigur Rós performed with the London Contemporary Orchestra at Royal Festival Hall on Friday 16th June 2023 as part of Christine and the Queens’ Meltdown Festival.

well Georg, I am happy to report that the night in question was more than "fine", it was simply one of the most magical nights I have ever experienced. I did see you in brixton last year, a last minute gig, it went by in a flash, plus I lost my father 3 months prior so the gig is now kind of a blur to me but the Southbank gig, I spent a few days in London as a mini break, with the performance being the icing on the cake, well it certainly was that, I have waited over 10 years to hear Von played live, and was it worth it? You already know the answer. what a night, for me it was peak sigur ros, many may argue, but I loved how the night went, the set list was so strong, and the orchestra so damn glorious. As for the album, well I love that too, Atta is up there with the best of them in my opinion.

I echo all of your comment... and I mean all... Sigur Ros and their music are simply from another planet...And as for Von live, it transports one to this other planet... One of their Gems...as is the new album... At the time I discovered Sigur Ros I lost my partner and within two weeks I was to lose my mother... Somehow Sigur Ros became synonymous with my loss .. Somehow they kept me going... 6 months later I saw them live in Wolverhampton... years later in Glasgow...and last year in Edinburgh.... I look forward to their next visit to the UK ...

It's nice that Kjartan Sveinsson is back, but I really miss Orri Páll Dýrason, who made the band so unique and complete for me. His drumming in songs like ,,Glósóli", ,,Sæglopur", ,,Ný batterí", ,,Popplagið", ,,Festival", ,,Stormur", ,,Kveikur" and ,,Bláþráður" made him immortal and the best drummer the Icelanders ever had in 21th Century.

The waiting is now over....the outcome is a masterpiece... George confirms my thoughts that this album is heavily influenced by Kjarten... So glad he returned to the band...
