Juggling many different parts of the build is the skill of any boat builder, this week's effort is no exception, sometimes there is no end to the parts and components that need to be fitted, modified, and redesigned to get the best result. That is the beauty of a total custom built Catamaran.
This KZbin build series is all about what it takes to build a Catamaran from Scratch. There is so much detail in a build of this size and so many different techniques involved in bringing her to fruition. I trust you will find something that may help with your current or future project, repair or dream boat build. If you feel there is value, please let us know and comment so we can continue to produce content worth your valuable time.

Yes, you’ve got a boat, one you built yourself, and boy is it strong, also has all the bells and whistles, total custom work, you’ve got one hell of a boat there!!!! Who says you never finish anything?

Hello Ross , me from England again . I feel your pain with nothing getting finished . I have exactly the same thing , well actually , had . I had something like 6 jobs in progress all at the same time on my motorhome . Parts are difficult to come by for a 23 year old vehicle , and although there has been some thinking outside the box , i've tried my best to remain original where at all possible . Major mechanical , body , and electrical work , and as one job came to a halt , i would start another to keep the work moving forward , while i waited for parts . So just like you , i had a whole host of unfinished work for the better part of 3 years . Then in the August of this year , the whole lot finally came together and the work took a massive leap forward , it's now looking seriously like going back on the road next year . This will happen to you trust me , just keep plugging away , you're doing a wonderful job . And yes , it was a sad day , but it's another step forward mate . Mickey .

You've got a boat that's most likely a lot stronger and well built then any kit you could buy. I would trust your boat over any kit or factory boat just knowing how well it's built and how much you over built everything you do. I'm pretty sure the people who build the factory boats don't put the level of perfection into thier boats as you have with your boat. I bet your so glad to have that mold and all that steel finally gone and you don't have to stress about it or pay to store it anymore. You are one hard working man Rossco.

I am sorry, but I can't let you say you never finish anything. Have you looked behind you? Maybe not finished, but seriously, look where you started to how far you have come. So much great work done. Don't sell yourself short, you have been doing great. You are getting into the home stretch now. Keep up the good work. You can do it!!!! ;)

As a proponent of scavenging and reusing material it is sad indeed that the mold couldn't be used for another boat and instead ended up being binned. I'm glad the steel was able to be recycled. Great progress on the boat, looking nearer to the finish line more and more.

Hi, about the steering, maybe it is easier to put the steering arm point forward and then have the hydraulic cylinder parallel to the bulkhead, connected to the inner hull. It might take less space that way, just a thought. Grtz from Holland

I don't suppose there is any practicality to making a spring-loaded rudder post that can absorb the shock of a grounding and give enough to prevent it from breaking/bending the rudder or cracking the hull open?

Great video apart from the audio level which is continuously changing. A constant level would make it much more enjoyable to watch. Shame about the mould but necessary I guess.
@steves1266
@steves1266 Жыл бұрын
I would think all the extra reinforcements the manufacturer has recommended, would be that in the event of a grounding, or other such rudder impact, it would snap off the rudder, instead of ripping it out of the boat creating a "huge" hole.
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls Жыл бұрын
I agree, the extra reinforcement plus the bulkhead will prevent or circumvent a lot of damage, rudders are in effect sacrificial, however I do not like to think about that .Ross
@steves1266

No one does! Fortunately you have another one in that type of event! And I would imagine you have an emergency make shift rudder plan available in the event both are lost. Love your videos Ross, Thanks!

Ross, did you get any value for the recycling of that steel or did you have to pay to have it taken away? 2 tonnes! That should get you something no? Lotto never came. Otherwise there would be more layups in that mold. 😢 great progress in the rudders!

If you had to do it from scratch today, would you consider using a foam core design -or- find a mold like you did before? I ask this, because I have considered building a foam core design.
@LifeOnTheHulls
@LifeOnTheHulls Жыл бұрын
Without a mould not only are you sanding,fairing, which is months and months of hard hard work.l and in some places here now not legal to paint without an ex pensive positive pressure facility, and painting at a real cost of around 150k more than this mould.I have a total foam core boat that has the outside already painted.Trade off is older design hence some of these mods.

I actually tried my hobby chainsaw, destroyed the blade in 5 minutes.The heat also created gumming of the resin.Excavator would have been more sensible.
