13:19 I rewatched this part as I was so impressed by this Commissioner. Its refreshing to get the feeling that he actually took the time to understand the problem and he is really honest with his reasoning. It's the first time I've ever felt this way when listening to the SAPS speak. Well done 👏

Keep on reporting about the murders and crime in SA and maybe it will start changing. Almost 100 muders reported a day, not to mention rape and assault but the media is silent - its a disgrace.i
@michaelangelo6818
@michaelangelo6818 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's silence that's the issue, I think our public has just become desensitized to it, you said it yourself, over 100 murders a day, that stops becoming a tragedy and starts becoming a statistic But I agree with you that more journalism is needed

What needs to happen in the SAPS is when you qualify and become a police officer, you must be sent to a complete different province or district. Being a police officer in your own area, you going to come accross your family/friends/neighbors doing wrong but you let them go coz you know them.

It doesn't work. During prime COVID19 travel restriction days with lockdowns, that principle was implemented especially in Durban. I was stopped and searched by 6 police vans from Limpopo, Thohoyandou in a Durban roadblock. As I was being searched and asked for permits in a well known drug area, I asked police if they saw the drug deals that were taking place across the street whilst they were busy with me? They replied by saying, that's not what they are here for, they were here to check if I wasn't smuggling alcohol or cigarettes and the drugs issue I must report to the police station. Without a permit I was let go because I suspect I questioned their operation and ethics

Does anyone know why pooice corruption is getting worse and worse. Not like SAPS have worse working conditions compared to the rest of SADC countries Were drugs and drug dealers common in the community before 1994. I ask because i was too young then😢 What's worse in violence KwaMashu vs Inanda😢
@RastaAfricanGentleman
@RastaAfricanGentleman 6 ай бұрын
Inanda is worse. Drugs were here before 1994 but the volumes weren't as high as today because there was mainly ecstasy, mandrax, weed and cocaine with a little crystal meth here and there. Corruption gets worse and worse as the buying power of criminals increases whilst the economy goes down, makes it easy lure in financially ambitious people

Policing informal settlements must be hell. Municipalities actually have decent By-Laws, etc but it all falls apart at the political level. Try demolishing shacks and there will be uproar, yet these very same places are the bed rock of crime. Most Smash and grabs happen in intersections that are near informal settlements...We can blame the police all we want but even our Justice system is too soft on crime. People are always released early and get short sentences. Politicians are dead set against the death penalty and the people most affected by crime keep these very same politicians in power.

As per police annual stats the top 10 spots in the country are shared by 6 belonging to Cape Town Townships, 3 belonging to KZN in Durban Central eNanda and PMB whilst 1 belonged to JHB.
