Now tell me, if it was a fight why are there barely any scars on that side of its head? It quite literally had to have ripped the squid apart quickly before it scratched alot, also giant squid only weigh 250kg and the largest colossal squids weigh around 900kg while a female sperm whale weighs approx 14-15,000kg and a bull sperm whale weighs 40 tons while a larger one weighs 50 tons

One thing you forgot to mention that's incredibly interesting is brine pools. Brine pools are literal lakes below the sea. They contain water with an extremly high salinity and actual have a distinct surface towards the ocean. Brine pools are so incredibly saline that most fish that enter them die almost immedietly. Except hagfish. Hagfish don't give a flying fuck about the salinity of the brine pool and use them as personal hiding spots. But the most interesting thing about brine pools is that each and every one of them has a unique composition and a unique fauna of microorganisms that exist only at that particular brine pool.

As a human biologist, I cannot emphasise enough how important the discovery of new organisms in the sea is. To give you an example, studies on the jellyfish Aequorea victoria has enabled us to isolate the green fluorescent protein (GFP), which, as the name suggests, exhibits bright green fluorescence. Today, we wildly fuse GFP with other proteins in order to make them visible and observe processes in cells. GFP is so wildly used today that its discovery has been awarded with the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry (would love to make a video about the applications of this bright protein). Who knows what else we could find in the deep sea? Feel free to ask anything about that topic (or stem cells, since I am conducting research in this field)!

What’s crazy is that The Challenger Deep is probably not even the deepest point. It’s only the deepest point that we have discovered, and we’ve only explored 5% of all the oceans. So there’s gotta be a place that’s even deeper.
@Bananappleboy5 жыл бұрын
Very spooky, and also sounds a tad boring if all we will find down there is tiny squid and sea cucumbers or whatever, unless they are exotic. I mean, creatures would have to be reduced to the size of a tiny ball to preserve every energy they can or whatnot and move in slow motion.
@ghost-qm2lj5 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but there might not be any oceans deeper than the Challenger Deep, since the lowest you can get is the Crust. I think the only reason we’ve only explored 5% of the ocean is because around 70% of the Earth’s surface is water.

Just a thought, but I think it would be so cool for kurgesagt to make a series of videos looking at the different zones of the deep sea. As in what kind of animals have we found in the deep sea? What crucial characteristics do these animals have to survive such extreme depths and conditions? What kind of engineering or what qualifications do submersibles need to have in order to reach these depths safely. Again, this is just my opinion of what I thought would be cool for a serious of videos but maybe I’m wrong. But while the deep sea is fascinating, I don’t think this video does justice to the in depth science behind what it takes to thrive in each layer. Yes I think it does a good job at giving a good overview but in terms of going in depth I don’t think. But don’t get me wrong here, it’s a great video and I enjoy it a lot and all of this that I am saying is just my opinion and I’m not saying it is correct.

I mean, I believe in climate change and pollution (Because it's scientifically proven), but the only way to prevent our environment from getting worse is to kill a lot of the population and ban reproduction, we need to produce more in factories for the people, which creates more pollution, if companies have to use more environment friendly material because of new laws then the prices of even common things will sky-rocket, business's will shut down the economy would crash, there is no way to save the environment unless they add laws or kill people, which could end in total disaster. I would recycle and stuff, everyone should, but it's not going to make that much of a difference.

While some kids were dreaming about exploring the unreached wanders of space, during my childhood, I was amazed by the fact that the depths of the ocean were not given as much interest. I always considered the ocean to be a space within Earth-vast, unexplored, so close-yet so far. The video I watched took me back to my childhood fantasies while providing some curious details about biology, in particular, the topic of evolution. It was a bewildering experience to contemplate how life on Earth was able to adjust to the harshest of conditions, such as those present at the bottom of the ocean. Evolution resulted in the creation of truly breathtaking creatures ready to survive in an unnormal environment that, at first glance, shouldn't be habitable at all. Interestingly enough, this chain of thoughts took me back to space and left me wondering-if life can exist in the depths of the ocean, why can't it exist in the vastness of space?

Hello Kurzgesagt, I came across this one quite a few years ago and still couldnt get its beauty out of my head. I see lots of space and universe, disease and immune related videos but not many of this beautiful oceans of ours. I dare carefully ask your channel to make more contents about the blue planet, if you could! Thank you always, for your beautiful channel :)
