Airline: British Airways
Flight: BA287
Aircraft: Boeing 747-436 (G-CIVA)
Route: LHR (Heathrow) - SFO (San Francisco)
Seat: 36A (World Traveller)
Flight Time: 10 hours 3 minutes
Departed: 14:36PM BST - Runway 27R
Arrived: 16:39PM PDT - Runway 28R
Routing: 4904N 10245W ISN BIL KU90Q KU75M FMG GOLDN6
My flight aboard G-CIVA from London Heathrow (LHR/EGLL) to San Francisco (SFO/KSFO) including ATC at San Francisco. The flight may have been fairly quick in comparison to the time allowed for it, but we were kept on the ground just outside of the International Terminal for a while due to 2 aircraft which needed to depart before we could get to the gate (Emirates 777 and earlier BA 747 flight).
Check out the Virgin 747 rotating in front of us whilst waiting to cross 28L at SFO. Amazing.

Many people are lucky to see it in person though, since this is a regularly scheduled very heavy flight (nowadays gets the A380 regularly) and SFO is pretty busy. But nice footage indeed.

Don't they sometimes burn some of the fuel before they climb to higher altitudes?

watching this brought back memories of the flights I used to take between LHW and SFO. That flight is too long for me; hour after hour in that plane. I was always so glad when that 10 hour flight was over.

same here. I wnt to London in '95 I remember on the way back to SF our flight was delayed taking off because the originally scheduled pilot couldn't make it so they called the on-call pilot who was at home at the time working on his roof.

2012年5月25日发布 Airline: American Airlines Flight: AA741 Aircraft: Boeing 737-823 (N861NN) Route: San Francisco (SFO) - Los Angeles (LAX) Seat: 21A (Economy) Flight Time: 54 minutes Departed: 16:02PM PDT - Runway 28L Arrived: 16:56PM PDT - Runway 24R Routing: KSFO PORTE3 AVE SADDE6 KLAX My next flight of my trip to California, aboard N861NN flying AA741 from SFO-LAX. A 737-800 series with only a year in service. Today's service was slightly delayed due to 30 knot winds at SFO. My first experience with AA and I found it a pleasure. I quite liked the drop down screens telling you anything you didn't want to know rather than having cabin crew do it - feels slightly less intrusive! Flew the downwind at LAX past Hollywood and Downtown before turning for finals with 24R. Notice the ANZ "All Blacks" 777 when on short finals - a regular at LAX. Enjoy the video - some fantastic engine start noises!!

Of course you can understand them. ATC instructions are nearly the same in the different flight phases. So you know what should come next and you can logically think about what he said. And the most important instruction is always on the end like: " ... a 747, 2 miles final, wind 260/10, 13R CLEARED TO LAND". So the pilot knows there is a 747 on short final and he is cleared to land. And that's the same with all instructions.

Because heathrow is so busy, at peak times they use something called 'gear up procedure' which is when as soon as a departing a/c has got his gear up, they next one will be cleared for takeoff, this only happens when a/c are on different SIDS to prevent severe wake turbelence, that's why you think your 2nd in a queue but turned out to be 4th or something - it's quicker in the long run.

Those are actually PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) lights. VASI has been phased out as PAPI provides a visual indication to a lower height. T-VASIS is also used but has a different layout and their indications differ slightly.

Actually the ATC tells the pilot that he has been cleared for takeoff. If you see the yellow signs along the taxiways with Monitor 222.233 that is the channel for departures. When you hear those two chimes and "Cabin Attendants Please Prepare for Takeoff" the ATC told the Pilot "BA 222 You have been cleared for takeoff on Runway 24 Right" The four bells means the ATC told the pilot 30 seconds to takeoff. enter the runway into position

First of all ... turbulence .... is nothing to be frightened of. It's usually very light, and only lasts a few minutes. The crews fly through this very often, and it's never a problem. And you are far more likely to be killed on your way to the airport, than you are travelling in the air. They let anyone drive cars, but pilots are trained for years.

First of all, great vid!! Jut wondered though.. (I'm certainly no expert), but the take off happens approx 1 minute behind the Delta AC (couldn't see a gap in the editing). What are the rules about wake turbulence? Thought they had to wait for longer before they can begin take off roll? Or would that only apply to smaller aircraft? anyone shed on light on that? cheers. Read wikipedia, but am no wiser! :o)

I notice a lot of trans-atlantic flights fly north from heathrow to Greenland into Canada then into the US. Why is this? Why not just fly more towards the US instead of going into this awkward path. Wouldn't this make the flight shorter as well?
