im not a Tolkien lore buff, but i always thought Tolkien kept magic very subtle and subdued in his world, or at the very least in his stories. Meaning the world might have strong magic, but the characters in the stories never showed us extreme forms of magic. Even the best magic users in the world like the wizards kept their magic to a bare minimum in the story. The best example is of course Gandalf since we never see him solve every problem he faced with blasting, flying, or healing magic etc. The RoP on the other hand is using magic to carry almost every single plot.

One of the things that annoyed me in this episode was how OFTEN the dwarves went back and forth to see Celebrimbor, then back to Moria, back to the elves, back to Moria for a one minute council, and back to the elves. As if it's a five minute walk! Meanwhile, Elrond can't even get to the place he was going, and barely manages to get back to "the high king" 🙄

Hi Jonathan. I collected a few examples of horrible dialogue. These are from Season 1, Episode 3 alone: REPULSIVE IMAGERY Pharazon: I would sooner knee-cap a stallion than seek to imprison the mighty commander of the Northern Armies. UNCLEAR METAPHOR Pharazon: We dare not invite your father's cloud back overhead. OVERSTUFFED EXPOSITION Miriel: And yet, though Elves have been unwelcome on our shore since the reign of my grandfather's great grandfather, you chose to break with that precedent. Why? NOT DRIVING HOME THE POINT Elendil: With respect, Queen Regent, given the circumstances, I did only what I believed to be most prudent. Miriel: If, Elendil, that is truly your wish, then I shall have to ask you to perform a service. (WHAT WISH? OH I SEE IT IS TO DO WHAT IS PRUDENT. SHE NEEDS TO NAIL THAT E.G. "IT WILL BE PRUDENT FOR YOU TO PERFORM A SERVICE FOR ME") MORE OVERSTUFFED EXPOSITION Elf 1: They're searching for something. Elf 2: Some sort of weapon, perhaps? (HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT?) Elf 1: I do not know. But they ransack village after village, toiling nightly to find it for their leader. TRYING TO TALK FANCY AND FAILING Galadriel (looking at skiff): I assure you it's an improvement on my prior mode of passage. (WHY NOT DO IT PJ STYLE EG "IT'S BETTER THAN MY LAST RIDE"?) FORGETTING YOUR OWN SCRIPT Galadriel: Who is this mortal who speaks to me as if he has the slightest idea who I am? (YOU JUST TOLD EVERYONE IN THE COURT EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE) ODD PHRASEOLOGY Galadriel: You didn't say the Hall of Lore was assembled by Elros himself. (FROM A FLAT-PACK?) NOT KNOWING WHAT WORDS MEAN Harfoot: We can't carry the cart without you. (YOU PULL IT YOU DON'T CARRY IT) WHO THINKS "PRIOR" IS A COOL WORD? Sadoc: And now, before we begin our next journey, we remember those from prior migrations, who fell behind. SHEER WEIRDNESS Sadoc: Ma Hambley. Was making a sculpture (APPARENTLY A CAPITAL OFFENCE) MORE NOT KNOWING WORDS Elendil: In nine days' time, when the Sea Trial begins and that ship launches, you will be on it. (LAUNCHING IS WHEN YOU BUILD A SHIP. THE SHIP IS SAILING NOT LAUNCHING) Bonus dialogue, from Episode 5: SOUNDING LIKE A TERRIBLE PARTY CONFERENCE SPEECH Bronwyn: But if you choose to stand with me and fight, this tower will no longer be a reminder of our frailty, but a symbol of our strength. (THE TOWER THEY DESTROY IN THE NEXT EPISODE)

They are context in books that is not needed & fine ,that is needed & can be different when put into a movie That’s what 99% of these idiots don’t understand at all ! Until you have actually tried to make videos and tell a story. Even if it’s just narrated by voice 💁🏼♂️. ID LOVE TO SEE HOW THESE OTHERS WOULD “WRITE THEIR VERSION SO AWESOME”. Then read it on KZbin! Adding politics to movie criticism is another thing that’s just fkn stupid. Regardless to what one’s politics is. For 1. People can tell when it’s done. And it’s always done in a way that seems badly contrived for ulterior motives. Which is the opposite feeling one is supposed to get from a movie or book . Unless it’s about those two things. lol. DONE GET ME WRONG . Anyone can see ,like my criticism of the Acolyte . So ASSUMING MY POLITICAL VIEWS MATTERS IN A MOVIE ON HOW GOOD IT IS OR NOT WOULD BE WRONG . But this CRITICISM ECONOMY IS CHEAP AF. and very sad. After a certain point it will do more damage than good when it comes to getting well done movies . Because nobody wants what they expect in a movie! NOBODY! Unless you are a self absorbed fk stick ,that needs EVERYTHING TO BE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR WANTS 💁🏼♂️😂 Obvious to whom that fits. And even those who claims to like them knows it’s sour & is not something they think is awesome enough to copy them . lol.

Oh poor you. Its wrong eh? i love how most of you have no idea and cannot even understand what is in front of you and you claim to be tolkien experts, lol. The difference between what is essentially a draft outline of a story and a full developed story is often substantial. Once you begin writing a story, things which you do not demand a great deal of in the outline phase need to be relooked at. Take for example the order of the rings creation...The people designing the show not only have to avoid the march to the inevitable ( kind of book of the film in reverse) but they have to reveal more of the dilemmas and doubts of the races of middle earth, and in doing so, deal thematically with the same issues that Mr. Tolkien did. Sure there are very substantial changes to the way the story is told but it is still the same story. The reason that Mr Tolkien made the 3 elver rings unsullied and separate is because of course it fits with what he did with them in the story and granted their keepers a FABULOUS MYSTERY.But where is the drama in that?Cluttering up the story with making rings, with no particular reason, for Elves in general just has no drama. It sounds like a thesis rather than a taut and well constructed narrative. In the series the Elven Rings arrest decline, the Dwarven Rings are central to acquisitiveness, hybris and greed, and men are just weak and seduced(we will see about men in the next season). What i am trying to say is that seeing the races of Middle Earth slowly falling under Sauron's schemes make a perfect drama and you will find that out in Episode 5 of season 2. The movies had tremendous changes even if they had a crystal clear narrative of 1200 pages but i love them. I find that series a very good endeavour, i have my issues, there are flaws but it is still very intriguing and doesnt deserve some of the hate it gathers. Have a good day

As stupid and poorly done as this show is, the idea that the dwarven rings give them a sense of the mountain is not lore-breaking to some extent. However it should just help them find ore, encouraging their greed and driving them to delve deeper. This also makes sense because the Elven smiths made ALL of the rings for THEMSELVES, not for the dwarves, they would want the rings to help them. This would also explain why Thorin, and Thrain wanted Thror's ring, as it would help them regain their wealth.
