Here in Aberdeen we are a harbour city, a harbour which is full of massive offshore supply ships running 24/7 on marine diesel! The roads that skirt the edge of the harbour are a major route connecting the north and south of the city. They’ve put this route inside the LEZ, forcing older vehicles onto longer routes which increases traffic and pollution in those areas and fuel consumption to the user. Add this to the crazy bus gates and it really is a sh*tshow. We have a woefully inadequate public transport system which is also one of, if not the most expensive in the whole of the UK. Aberdeen city centre (like many other cities) is suffering badly and this is another nail in the coffin. People are refusing to shop there, as their perception (whether right or wrong) is that it’s just too difficult to get around, and are heading to places out of town. Businesses are genuinely worried about the effect of this, with local and national government doing whatever they want without listening to anyone and damn the consequences. RIP Aberdeen 😢
@David-tt2mtАй бұрын
I remember Edinburgh in 1980/81, great place to drive and parking was a relative doddle, even with the high number of cars. Visited Edinburgh by car this April, shocking road surfaces, limited and very expensive parking for 24 hours, one way streets meaning greater distance to travel to get to where you want to go. It's clear that they want personal transport gone.

The worst part of the 1 in Aberdeen is it's extended just enough to block the direct route from north to south sides of the city so need to do a massive detour (more emissions) and to top it off. This section is right at the harbour. One of the biggest in the UK and very big ships that allways have there engine running. Also train station and bus station all right at that point. But it's us in our older cars that's the problem unless we pay 🤔😂😂😂

Light aircraft traffic is a tiny fraction of car traffic. Not that it matters. The moment you start saying “x is not fair what about y?” they’ve won. Get rid of those unelected tossers in power who make shit up to make money and power.
The Aberdeen LEZ is a complete joke! it runs along the side of the Harbour and the huge ships are sitting with engines running 24/7 spewing out emissions, but no the council are concerned about me in my 2004 Porsche. I used to go into Aberdeen at the weekend shopping I just won't bother and will go to the outlying towns now like Inverurie where they actually want your business.

I expect the car parks at Council offices to be converted into mini-forests with native tree species. All the Councillors and staff can walk or cycle in from wherever they live. Any chance of that happening?

I used to live in Aberdeen, back when they still had an all diesel bus fleet (about 10-11 years ago). Pollution was never a problem. I used to go to martial arts sessions and walk to college and work through the city centre, including union square, union street, gallowgate (which is now blooming pedestrianised) and rosemount etc (if you know the area you'll know the roads im talking about). I was never short of breath, coughing, or even complaining about fumes and the like. It's only a problem if you stood right in front of a bus's exhaust vent, which is a stupid thing to do anyway. Pollution was never a topic of conversation or a problem, even for students or left leaning types in the city. I have friends who have questioned selling perfectly running Euro 5 or older diesel vehicles as they need them to get about because of the CAZ coming into force soon. You can't even pay a toll, it's just a straight up ban. If I have deliveries for the offshore marine survey or oil and gas sector, it means i have to divert 20 miles around on the new Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR) to go from say, Hareness Road near the Shell HQ, to the industrial estate near the docks, or the dock entry (some of which is actually in this new zone). You can't use the A road going through the city centre any more in a Euro 5 diesel vehicle, even if this means you're not driving down Union Street. OH YEA! They've included a load of residential areas in this area too, which never saw much traffic, even during rush hour periods. Absolute scam. THANKS SN-PEE.

That’s the plan to get cars off the roads. In Edinburgh the pollution level was 6 and the level at which air is deemed clean is 20 so there’s no requirement for LEZ.

People and truckers should stop going into these cities. It looks like you get what you have voted for "Who voted these people in ?" can not blame the English for this stay green :={
@toiletrollholderАй бұрын
If you stop going in then the businesses go broke. This is a secondary intention of this policy. If people had just carried on driving around and NOONE had paid the fines the policy, including ULEZ, would have failed.

I've got a Landy and am outside Dundee . LEZ is only affecting the city centre just now but I bet after a few weeks it will be deemed such a success it will be spread out to the suburbs . Not related , but on top of that I have a few chickens and the Scottish government depsite announcing we are bird flu free, are rolling out registration of every chicken in the land to combat bird flu . Failure to do so is either £5000 fine or 6 months jail time . The 1000s of wild birds I had in the garden this morning are clearly no cause for concern . Scotland is becoming a dictator state .

London Road in Grays Thurrock (heading towards Grays town) has had a width restricted Traffic tight giving priority to buses since 2010. You manage to overtake a bus at the bus stop, then it will be in front again holding up the traffic at bus stops again. Why, along the same road is there a bus stop almost every 100 meters? Is it that hard for someone to walk more than 100 meters.
