as both the alleles are of single gene,and you are mentioning about dominant and recessive, you must mention the same letter in order to avoid confusion.R for Red and r for white. we should follow the guidelines

In heterogeneous allele . The pair of allele is denoted by same symbol capital as well as small letter. ( for red colour R and white colour r)
