Years ago, before sat nav was a thing I was part of a transplant surgery team. We were in an ambulance trying to find the Chelsea and Westminster hospital. We ended up outside Buck Palace totally lost and the driver asked one of these blokes on a motorbike for directions. They decided to escort us as we were in a bit of a hurry. I have never travelled so fast through zone 1 of London. It was quite an experience.

The second part of the film shows in the main one of the years the SEG team escorted 10 families with disabled or terminal children as part of a special visit to London. Sadly for some of the families each year the filming we do of the day is the last memory the family have together smiling. For other families they continue to enjoy their special day and relive when they were escorted as The Royal Family, PM and visiting Heads of State have been by the SEG team. To date they have provided this escort with Sporting Bears for 50 families from children's charities across the UK. We are grateful for their roadcraft in London and thank the Met Police for adding support to a special day to these families lives.

In the early seventies I had to drive a very large wheeled earthmover in convoy with four others from Dartford where we had been working on the new power station on to Bristol where we were going to work on the new Portbury dock. We were escorted right through the centre of London by a similar crew of motorcyclists to the M4 where we had to wait for daylight before proceeding down the motorway with civilian escort vans. Between Dartford and the M4 we didn't stop once, even for traffic lights that we damaged because they were not wide enough to allow us through. This is not allowed now and all oversize machines have to be transported. For the technically minded the machines were four wheeled Caterpillar dumptrucks, 769Bs, that were fourteen feet wide. A normal truck is 9foot 6ins.

@richarddickson7473 жыл бұрын
@@afcgeo882 This is a fairly normal way to protect even high value targets. By moving through the city at 25mph but rapidly changing the route minute by minute it makes it almost impossible for terrorists to set up an attack. Compare this to the US where if the President had to go from the White House to the UN building then the streets would be barricaded and it would need a few thousand police and many other security people just for a minor trip. As any terrorists would know the cavalcade timing it meant that snipers etc would have to cover every roof top. A typical Hollywood Rambo type set up. In Britain we use our brains and commonsense which usually works very well..
@afcgeo8823 жыл бұрын
@@richarddickson747 There are only so many routes one can take from point A to point B, without needlessly exposing the customer to added risks. The unit primarily escorts low threat targets this way. High value targets get significantly larger escorts with more cycles and more armed personnel in vehicles, especially when it’s a foreign head of state, because they always up their protocols on unfamiliar terrain. Also, the White House is in Washington and the UN is in New York. While there is a lot of security for the US President, the timing and specific routes for such trips are actually made up last minute as well. During the UN General Assembly, the entire area around the UN compound is closed off and snipers are deployed, not for the US President specifically, but for the hundreds of dignitaries from all around the world that move around the area every day, for a week. Even the East River is closed off for that time, as the UN compound is on its banks. You seem to be running low on intelligence and high on moronic hate of the US. I imagine you just say if you get one you were told by a officer in uniform which is the only time you can go through them.
@emmascully98503 жыл бұрын
@@BaziwizZy No, I don't think that it would be mitigation for an automatically generated traffic offence. It's the same with blues and twos, go through a red light camera or box junction and it's an offence.
@seraphina9853 жыл бұрын
@Keith Grout An officer in uniform can as their authority to direct traffic does supersede the authority of an automated traffic signal. They do have to communicate this clearly and explicitly ie by giving you a direct order verbally or using hand signals. You most definitely cannot take it upon yourself to do so even if a police vehicle on blues is present. I know someone that was flashed by a red light camera in this situation but not entirely sure how it works but it must have been cancelled internally by the camera ticket office before contact with the registered keeper was made. In that case it was a group of motorcycle police escorting an ambulance presumably an inter hospital transport of a critically ill patient. I suspect the camera ticket office may have obtained this information from the escorting officers reports, perhaps their reports include the timestamps and locations where they were eg from reviewing body worn video or whatever. This would suggest there is some sort of delay in place before the actual letters are generated but this would not be that unusual for such an automated breech notification system. They often add things to a queue and process them with a delay if nothing else but to allow time for a random sample to be manually reviewed as a QA check to ensure that some temporary fault didn't cause the system to do a mass stupid.
@seraphina9853 жыл бұрын
@Keith Grout As I pointed out yes you are correct that you cannot take it upon yourself to move. That is not what is happening here though unformed police officers are using their authority to direct traffic to take manual control of intersections in this case. In fairness a single event doesn't make a pattern so perhaps the camera ticket office dropped the ball by coincidence at the exact same time the officer was controlling that intersection. But that doesn't change the law requires you to obey signals given by authorised persons (In the UK that is uniformed police officers and DVSA) as well as signs used by school crossing guards. See Highway Code Rule 105 and relevant laws referenced therein. So yes do not move through a red light simply to let a vehicle pass blues or otherwise but you still must obey signals given by uniformed police officers and failure to do so is an offence. If you still don't believe me, the highway code or the underlying laws then best of luck if you get the chance to try ignoring signals yourself.
@seraphina9853 жыл бұрын
