Yet another immense piano player mostly unknown in the U.S, during the cold war years. Being Hungary one of the countries under soviet influence, its enormous musical quality went almost unknown, as it was the case with Gilels and Nikolaieva. Annie Fischer playing is emotional, technically perfect, warm, direct and seems almost simple in its huge complexity. The strongly musical soul of Hungary is always present in her rendering of this sonata Quasi una Fantasia. A bridge connecting directly through the genius of Beethoven from Mozart to Schubert. Thanks for posting.

Gilels is well known in the west including the US, but there are so many others, such as Vladimir Sofronitsky, Nikita Magaloff, Stanilav Neuhaus, Igor Zhukov, Rudolf Kerer, Grigory Sokolov, Witold Malcuzynski, Bella Davidovich, etc., and all of them are well above the popular guys whose name always show up on the top of search list here.

Warmherzige Interpretation dieser kompakten und fein komponierten Klaviersonate im lyrischen Tempo mit anmutigem Anschlag und effektiv kontrollierter Dynamik. Einfach wunderschön!
