I sell bananas on a scorch cart in the city. You have no idea how intriguing this discourse with Lance is to me. His story exhibits a lot of hard work, he's literally the first academic I'm personally bearing witness to, through this episode, who's working as hard as I do in the streets but intellectually. To me, it says a lot about "working smart", he's an inspiration! I always say a lot of intellectuals are lazy, it comes from my immediate observations, but through Lance my perspective has really been heightened, it's really inspirational in a way I'm thinking I need to work as smart in just selling bananas in the streets. Thank you for this dialogue Trevor, very insightful! Lance, you're my role model my brother, your story, failing big, your endeavours and the idea that you're sitting on Trevor's saddle sharing your essence, it's inspirational. I'm glad to be alive the same time you're alive, I'll be meeting you one day.

I don't agree with you on technological issues. We do have bandwidth issues. A lot of business opportunities are going to come up once this issue has been resolved. and part of it is that they are players in the industry that are holding us back. I tried to get a telecommunication licence to operate in Zimbabwe and unfortunately, it's way too expensive for anyone to purchase. To put this into perspective in South Africa this licence costs 30 000 rands per metropolitan and in Zimbabwe, it costs 10 million dollars. How does one make sense of it? It is so painful that we are building other people's countries and we are not being afforded the chance to build our own. If I had 10 million us dollars I would rather get US citizenship than get a piece of paper. Although I believe I am a fairly patriotic citizen I am also not naive.

Totally understand your struggle, I too tried to get a license to operate and damn. The run around, initially we were told wait 5 years becoz the regulator had just awarded a license to a new player and they’d just told Telkom, a player who’d tried to enter the Zimbabwe market the same thing. Information used to be scant in the past by the time we’d been told licensing financial requirements I was crippled by it being too high for us. Fast forward those five years or more and we were told a license is awarded through a invitation to bid but how and who gets to be invited to this? The answers were not clear, later that same year DFA was awarded a license and this multiplied my frustrations. They were doing feasibility studies when the lock downs started but who now where they at, DFA has some fiber footprint in the capital city I wouldn’t know about the rest of the country.
@trainingbits-africa3 жыл бұрын
@@nqobilemahlangu3812 I don't understand why we cannot use the unlisenced band for commercial use when the whole world is using. I spoke to the head of Potraz tech department and he said to me that 5.8ghz and other licenses in the same category would not work. I cannot understand this notion when a country such as the US is using the same. We are operating ISPs in south Africa using the same technologies
@blessingkumbiraisakala43893 жыл бұрын
I think you misunderstood him on the issue of bandwidth, he did appreciate that it is a problem. However, what he disagreed on the issue bandwidth being a problem they have to look at when they are designing their innovative platforms because they don't have enough of a market reach when they provide solutions.
