Rock climber here, I'd highly recommend anyone wanting to really amp their grip strength get a hang board, just make sure if strength is the goal you do 7-12 second hangs and 3 minutes off cause you're building tendons as well and those are VERY different from bigger muscle groups

I combine using straps for pull ups & rows whenever i need to hit my back really hard without loosing the grip strength. Straps alone are one of the gym equipment tools i have discovered recently and they work wonders for my progress. Once you start using straps it's hard to go back to relying on your grip so much.
@user-us4mc7ej3c
@user-us4mc7ej3c Жыл бұрын
exactly it makes it much easier to use the back correctly during pulling motions. It takes a long time to train grip enough so that they don't become a limiting factor for pulling exercises Make sure to train the forearms though if you use straps often and care at least a little about physique. Tiny forearms make the whole arms look bad

I think I just realized I hate targeting muscles. Like with pull ups I can do a thumbless grip but I prefer a thumb over grip, i have better control of my motion, to the point where people comment on how impressed they are because i can do my pull ups so controled. Or with curls, I can bend my wrist back or do that flat hand curl thing to target the biceps more but I feel better leading the curl with my forearm. It's been a huge help. And my grip has improved.

I rarely do hangs but can hang for more than a minute easily even while overweight. I think pull-ups and trap bar deadlifts have trained my forearms enough, giving carryover to the hang. Obviously the hang is a good exercise too, but if you do your lower and upper body compounds you will be fine.

Daniel, what are your thoughts for advanced goals in terms of hanging -- does 15-30sec reps with one arm deadhangs sound like a good goal? Do you have any thoughts on programming timing/breaks for deadhangs vs active hangs / scapular pullups and shoulder mobility/strength work (ie, shoulder dislocates, kettlebell halos, face pulls) in terms of spacing in timing and order sequencing? Thanks as always for all the great to the point content!

I realised my grip strength was limiting my pull ups. I started training at World Gym and had access to fat grip pull ups, my grip strength improved greatly a month in my forearms were massive and my pull up form and reps were much better. However, I over did it and my forearms were on fire all the time and if I tried to do a pull up on a standard pullup bar my forearm would hurt more. I was wondering how often should you train forearms and how to avoid overdoing it?
